Who are the most over rated and under rated fighters in UFC history?

Brandon Vera was pretty overrated, there was a lot of talk of him being the first concurrent two division champ. On sherdog, Matt Hughes is definitely the most underrated

Conor has always been the most overrated fighter of all time. Whittaker is criminally underrated on here, in the real world people know whats up.

Luke Rockhold is somewhat overrated. Definitely overranked as of now.

People saying BJ is over rated truly makes my head hurt ...
I think to say that you must be a newer fan and have no clue what he did as a fighter.. you have to look at who he fought and beat and how they were ranked when he did it

His game was years ahead others.
He has been punching bag about 8 years now. So new casual fans have never seen "real" Penn fight. And yes i do have a white belt, still everyone that dare to say bj is over rated know nothing about him.

Well for your specific example that is actually true. Joe not only never lost while racking up more wins, but he also faced newer(better) competition as the game evolves over time

Joe Calzaghe fought better competition that Muhammad Ali???

Good lord. Boxing hasn't really evolved in a very long time. There's an argument to be made that it has devolved. Guys only fight 40 odd times in their career now. Back in the day guys had 200 plus fights. Does a fighter learn more from extended training camps or actual real fights? The argument is there.

And Calzaghe is not better than Ali. Not even in the same universe. I've never heard any boxer in my life even consider Calzaghe in the top 10.

Most underated: Tim Sylvia

Most overated: Nick Diaz

BJ Penn is one of the greatest fighters of all time from the 2000-10 era.

Murilo Bustamante

Record is not overly stellar. He fought prime Chuck, Rampage and Henderson x2 and lost to all 3. Could have easily been given the nod in the Rampage and Henderson 2 fights, and held his own versus Chuck in a standup fight despite being a BJJ specialist and a lot smaller.

I think Jose Aldo is the most under rated since he got KO'd by Conor and I think BJ Penn is the most over rated because he has a record that is not too different than Artem Lobov's.
You've taught me a very solid lesson about why threads like this are pointless.

He not only held his own vs Chuck it was close and could have won,or maybe I just expected him to get killed and he didn't at all. That was a long time ago.Iirc I thought Busta beat Hendo and I don't remember the Rampage fight very well.Guy was a beast and had a head like Frankenstein.

Worthless thread minus mentions like this.

MMA math! Solid as a rock!

And as far as overrated? What about Woodley?
Yeah I agree with that. He's a wrestler with a right hand whose opponents all matched up well with him. Except maybe Maia but he just had to keep the fight standing. People have started calling him the GOAT or the WW GOAT, it's ridiculous.

Probably Conor is the most underrated, cuz ever since Conor knocked out Aldo, Aldo has been underrated, which made people go "yeah, Conor knocked out Aldo, but Aldo isn't actually great, cuz he got knocked out by Conor, and we all saw what happened to Conor when he faced Khabib".

Khabib is probably the most overrated, cuz his best win is Conor, and Conor isn't that great, cuz his best win is Aldo, and Aldo lost vs Conor.

how can a 2x first ever 2 weight division world champion at the same time, be over rated? if you're talking about being the goat..maybe...but as far as just being over rated...not possible...losing 1 fight, doesn't take away past achievements...especially considering, he was coming off a 2 year layoff...

Probably Conor is the most overrated because he was subbed 4 times already - once by a "slack-jawed rat", once by a journeyman LW and twice by complete cans - and people still think he's the best fighter on the planet. :D

how many times was anderson silver submitted? you might wanna go look...gsp, tapped 2x. so if you really wanna bring up fights that happened a decade ago...great....conor got tapped 2x in the ufc...that's what matters...and like I said, so didn't gsp..get tapped 2x...

McGregor and Covington are the most over rated fighters at the moment. Uncle Dana has given them both an easy ride to near the top. Covington hasn't fought Wonderboy, Usman, Till, Ponzinibbio, Perry, Cerrone and more of the real top guys.

easy ride...beating both the #1 contender and then the champion..yep, sounds like an easy ride..haha if you're talking about at LW...he still beat the champion..end of story.

I also feel like Ferguson is overrated so I'll chime in on this

He is very good everywhere and extremely good in scrambling/grapplin. He doesn't fade and give up when most fighters would. Everything about him is great other than his defensive weaknesses. He doesn't have an iron chin and he always gets hit.

He has weaknesses that get him in trouble in almost every fight. What gets him through most of his fights is his ability to recover quickly when badly hurt, the ability to scramble and unorthodox movement while he is hurt and trying to recover.

Shit while writing this I had to really think about it and almost became a fan, however there is always a bit of luck involved when he's badly rocked and just narrowly manages to survive and recover, and some day someone will hurt him and he won't recover

Also he's just fucking weird so maybe I'm biased

I love BJ, but ue is overrated. And I'm not saying that because of most of his losses.
I think the problem with BJ is that he did what we all thought was impossible so many times that we started to expect it. When he got older and the fire wasn't burning as hot, he still had huge ambitions but without the horse power to back it up. Evolution of the sport also played a big roll in my opinion. He said it back leading up to the Renzo fight... he was the new young lion coming to kill Renzo and one day a new young lion would come for him.

As of today, I'd say Khabib and Romero are the most overrated.

Most underrated today would be Conor because now he is being called a bum when he is still a very good fighter.

Very underrated and no longer fighting - Bisping

Conor has lost more than 1 fight. Are you ignoring no camp Diaz?
