I was in Taiwan many years back and was hanging out with the teenage kids of my hosts. And I got them to tell me some American jokes in exchange for some good Chinese jokes. All I remember was that they thought it was absolutely ridiculous when I divulged that it's a common conception that Chinese people speaking sounds like "ching chong ching" or whatever. I thought it was just as ridiculous when they told us that Americans sound like "Woof woof woof". The sound they made is exactly how I would imitate a large dog barking.
