Lots of people here say MMA needs to mature a bit and improve fighter pay to attract more A level athletes. Boxing has been established for centuries now, pays better and has a far larger and more established talent pool.

“For mixed martial arts the combined total of the 826 purses was $17,936,216 for a mean average of $21,714 per purse($54,132 for boxers). The median average for MMA fighters was even lower than that of boxers, a meager $1,250.”

So which current boxers would you sherdoggers consider to be the A level athletes that would dominate MMA had they chosen that as their career path?

Combat sports, especially of the striking variety are far more technically demanding and far less athletically demanding than things like Football, Wrestling, Gymnastics etc(not to say these sports are less technical, but the demand for athleticism is intrinsically higher in my opinion ). Also there's many different kinds of athletes, Lance Armstrong was an A Level athlete....

Anyways, I'll answer your question. Some of the Ukrainians like Oleksandr Usyk and Vasyl Lomachenko are great athletes. Blake Caparello apparently ran a 40 yard dash in 4.3 seconds which is top combine numbers for the NFL yet the dude can go 10-12 rounds in boxing, that's gotta be some seriously raw athleticism. Anthony Joshua for his size is pretty damn athletic, obviously. Canelo Alvarez is a world class athlete with fantastic conditioning. Sergio Linares seems very athletic too.

There's a lot of athletic boxers

Anthony Joshua is a monster.
