In this little experiment, we will find out how you perceive other posters, and how other posters perceive you.

There's no need for self-identification in this thread. It doesn't matter what you think of yourself. What this project will ultimately achieve is a consensus on how the WR regulars look at each others in here.

Here is the seating chart, divided into 7 section:

    Left:

    Center-Left:

    Centrist/Moderate:

    Center-Right:

    Right:

    Libertarian:

    ???:

Don't see your name on the list? You will be added as soon as you submit your votes for other people!

Once a WR regular has been voted for 10 times, I will put them into the official seating chart above, in accordance to other people's assessment of him.

    -----

Note 1: We're using the standard U.S spectrum, which probably leans further towards the right than what Germans and Swedish are used to.

Note 2: Please use this thread to nomination other people, not for off-topic discussions.

I would appreciate it if the Mods would keep an eye on this thread and delete all the mindless drivels that clogs up the voting process.

This seems way overoptimistic about the number of on-topic responses this thread will get.

What about libertarians? It's hard to fit them in to this. They tend to be closer to the American left on social issues but the American right on economics (to an extent--though they oppose corporate welfare and such that often finds support from the right).

Yea I've usually seen the spectrum as a square with authoritarian and Libertarian added as well. I think most posters in here generally just see it as left and right though

Also, I'm not sure if I've really encountered many real libertarians on here

That square is bullshit, though, as right-wing libertarians are very authoritarian. The spectrum doesn't tell you every nuance of someone's beliefs, but it is useful. The square really isn't.

I'd definitely put Greoric in the libertarian box. He seems just as suspicious of conservatives as liberals. Whenever a right-wing circle jerk breaks out, he's quick to remind the participants that their side commits the sin of compulsion just as much as the other does.

I think Tete would fit in there too, though he doesn't post very often so it's hard to say that with much confidence.

I remember you saying this before but don't really remember why. What example with the right wing libertarian would you have? I think most libertarians on the right are really just social conservatives who are actually fiscally conservative so they don't really fit the definition

That doesn't necessarily make him libertarian though.

Right-wing libertarians fit perfectly on the right of the spectrum, and they aren't anti-authoritarian. Left-wing libertarians fit perfectly on the far left of the spectrum, and they are anti-authoritarian but not in any way similar to right-wing libertarians.

Can you explain that first question? I think most self-identified right-wing libertarians are just right-wingers who aren't religious and/or don't like to identify with the GOP.

No, but he's pretty consistent in his defense of liberty, and that makes him one.

If you're talking about Greoric, he's not at all consistent in his defense of liberty. Pretty hard-core authoritarian, actually. If you're talking about TeTe, he very openly identifies as a right-wing libertarian (or Libertarian).

In what sense is he authoritarian? I've only ever seen him long for the day when there will be no, or as little, government as possible. Strong centralized government and limited political freedoms? Not that I've seen.

    We're talking about you, @Greoric.

Though i think there is more complexity to social issues then that square gives off, it still breaks it down in a simple way. You are either for government inference on economic and social issues or not. A libertarian wouldn't be for interference in the sense they wouldn't prevent people from doing what they want. An authoritarian would.

I just haven't noticed anyone who's hands off on social and economic issues. I feel like most people fit into the left right pretty well on here with very rare exceptions. I remember Jan Pok(sp) was kinda just a philosophy/spiritual guy and IDL use to be very CT/New World order which distinguished him. Can't think of anyone off the top of my head I would call libertarian but I could be forgetting.

Does one need to advocate the gold standard in order to be "hands off" on economics?

Nah. At least imo, it doesn't. I get annoyed when it goes so deep they start talking about competing private currencies, etc

Arkain, if you want a thread like this to succeed as you intended it to be shaped, then you'll have to actually come up with a candidate list to choose from, I think. Just lay out a fat list.
