faber is a midget but he's loved and grew his star power by not taking bums to decisions or waiting until it was totally safe and the crowd was asleep from boredom to go for an exciting finish.

This isn't a post on goat or rankings or skill level.

Fans are clear what they want to see; they want excitement and charisma.

    Rousey 1 rd demolitions

    Conor's wars w Diaz and explosive ko's

Gsp's marquee 'it' factor ( his fights weren't exciting but he had some type of appeal that for some reason when he fought made people feel like they were walking onto an exotic car dealership or something.

    Nick Diaz attitude

Fedor, jones, Andersons destructions of elite fighters and sense of invincibility

Mm uses a safety first style until virtually all risk is removed then he goes for the finish. There's like, no excitement in his fights for the average paying fan.
No 'war' aspect that Nate Diaz, gaetche, Conor, fedor, and others bring to the table when they fight.

The only thing worse than watching a 5'2" man fight is watching his fight safe, in addition to watching him fight safe against a Ray Borg caliber fighter for 4.5 Rds.

It's not UFC fault that mm lacks the fighting style, charisma, or marquee factor of other fighters. He could start helping himself by going out there and violently destroying Ray Borg within two Rds, like Conor does to fighters 39947473
Times better than Ray Borg, in 1/10th the time.

What does mm expect w his performances against Tim Elliot, Ray Borg and Wilson reis, when other fighters are giving us wars fought at just as high a skill level against better opponents. No amount of promotion is going to salvage or make us care about his performance against Tim Elliot or Rds 1-4 vs Borg.

Didn't read, just skimmed. If you didn't enjoy his performances against Elliot, Borg, and Reis, then maybe MMA isn't for you. Try WWE instead. The crowd chanted 'Mighty Mouse' for the first time in history at UFC 216. He's becoming a star.

Where are these millions of fans on ppv night? The whole division is just the run off from 135s butthole. Lesser talent that couldn't hack it there ended up in 125.

Fedor beat alot of cans that are worse than the likes of Elliot and Borg. Anderson lost to some cans that are worse than the likes of Elliot and Borg.

UFC 216 just did 125k. Kevin Lee and Tony Ferguson will never be stars.

Mighty Mouse didn't headline UFC 216. He wasn't even added to the card until mid September. So what point were you making?

Was the PPV numbers for 216 that much worse than 215 or 213? Or even cards headlined by Stipe?

216 wasn't headlined by MM so im not sure it's fair to put it on him. Plus, vegas shooting.

In what world is Faber a big star? He's popular in his hometown and among hardcore fans, but I doubt he's "popular" outside of the MMA circle by any definition.

There is an issue with UFC's ability to get their fighters out there to potential demographics. Tyron has a point in UFC missing his market. They're marketing is extremely limited, as is who they reach.

DJ is the best fighter in the world. He's also a regular man with a family, and a gamer. UFC has no idea what to do with any of that, just like they have no idea what to do with anyone else.

Mind you, the PPV format holds everyone back because you're asking non-hardcore fans to spend $60+ on something they have little understanding of. PPV alienates the vast majority of the population who may have a semi-interest in the sport.

I think for the sport to grow, and for more fighters to become more well known and popular, PPV has to go, and years and years need to be invested in making the sport, and the athletes more readily available to the masses on cable tv.

Lesnar also had nothing to do with UFC 200 selling +1 million PPV buys because he fought in the co-main event.

I don't know, man. He went out there and KO'ed Benavidez with a punch or so and I was still bored.

People believe there is a straight line between fighting ability/success and popularity-based outcomes, so when there is a giant mismatch (like with Mighty Mouse), the assumption is that something is going wrong in the promotion.

Which isn't true. The UFC has done enough that the market would have responded already if they were so inclined to be interested in him.

    1. Mighty Mouse is an all-time great MMAist (top 6 in my book)
    2. The UFC has given a *reasonable* amount of promotion to him
    3. The market isn't responding to Mighty Mouse

None of those points are in conflict with one another.

If the UFC thought he could be a star, they would spend money to promote him. They're not worth 5B for nothing.

He's dull, small and boring. Not exactly star material.

Brock Lesnar was the most popular name on the card and most of the marketing (after Jones was forced out) centered around him. Good try, though.

Now you're comparing MM to Lesnar just for the sake of hating.

    Sink lower please.
