One lap as fast as you can, around the local high school track.
If you can get down in the low 60's, great. If you're already there, great. Even mid to high 60's gets you away from most.
Nothing will train you better for dealing with an armed assailant.

Ya when the show was going, I don't think I spent any time in the heavies. The GOT threads were the only ones I ever went into.

I did traditional ju jitsu for 7 years and learnt a few disarming techniques...
in saying that our instructor always told us its better to run unless cornered with no other choice as you never know the skill level of the person holding the knife..
    Like this guy for example...
those that CBF watching it all it properly starts at the 2:15 mark

Krav maga or muay Thai are highly.effective against weapons. Of its a gun don't bother give them your wallet and be thankful. But if it's a knife you also have to be ready to be slashed. Even at the highest level one slip in movement can cost you cuts or stabs. So it's really up to you to fight someone with a weapon. Bats aren't a problem. But anyone can get lucky with a knife and especially a gun.

For melee weapons you will have the best luck with Korean and Chinese martial arts. They were designed for battle in traditional society. For a gun your only option is to get your own gun.

If someone has a knife and knows how to use it you should run. All it takes for the attacker is a jab, then you got a potentially fatal wound.
