What is the boxing forums take on mayweathers career?

He is the top 3 fighter of all time. In my opinion, without argument. He's done what not too many have done in boxing and was able to leave undefeated, beating Marciano's record. On top of that, just about 50% of his fights were all title fights, and despite that, his KO ratio is over 50%. He is one of the most accurate punchers in history, as well as one of the most evasive. Love him or hate him, his one of the best ever. If you don't agree with top 3, then he is top 5 at least.

His tour with De La Hoya was also one of the best things ever.

50-0, beat a whole host of top fighters, most of them naturally bigger than him. People can moan about when he fought these guys, or over little things that were in his favour, but this is just nitpicking and sour grapes. I'm not his biggest fan but I'll admit he is one of the very best fighters in my lifetime, and that is undisputable
Loved the fact that he made a 'huge' Mcgregor look like a fckin mug

One of the greats, without question.

Deserves a lot of criticism, without question.

Mixed.

Great fighter but obviously not immune to criticism.

Some say he is an all time great, and I thnk he's gotta be in top WW conversations, but we have to give careers a while after retirement to see how they stand the test of time. Some may look back and say that he fougt p4p guys and champs but was timely when he fought some of them.

I don't really care either way, good or bad. I'll watch a couple of his fights still, but that's about it.

I mean, everyone with any sense says he is an all time great regardless of what they think about his style or character.

One of the greatest. Under 140lbs, possibly the best ever but I think a small few are better. He earned the right to call himself TBE.

Great boxer.

But he fought everyone at the right time. Fought Corrales in the midst of personal problems, De La Hoya way over the hill, Gatti after about 15 losses (not that he needed it but still), Pacquiao blown up and with a shoulder injury and that’s just scratching the surface.

People said Lennox Lewis was the master chess player really it was Floyd.

He lost to Augie Sanchez in the amateurs and was outboxed by Erik Morales in sparring. Far from unbeatable.

An all time great defensive boxer with an extremely conservative personality by boxing standards.

Top 5 for me.

lol @ this guy using Gatti as a measuring stick. And he would have beaten the fuck out of Morales.

"Pacquiao blown up"

What do you mean by that?

WHat impressed me most about maywetger was how he could fight guys like Cotto and Maidana and weather their storms. He did take some punishment doing that though and I thought Maidana should have been given that win.

Yeah this mirrors my view on him somewhat. I do think his record looks better on paper than the reality though as he fought quite a few guys when they were over the hill. And that's my main criticism, I don't think he ever went into a fight that he thought he might lose, he went in knowing he was going to win because the odds were in his favour. I would have liked him to test himself more than he did because he's clearly one of the greatest talents to ever step foot in a ring. He deserves to be in the top 5 ATG as far as I'm concerned.

Met him at a restaurant in the Palms casino 2008is
Short version/cliffs

Made eye contact
He approached me and stuck his hand out and said, Floyd Mayweather jr, nice to meet you
Asked if we wanted a pic
When we took pic I said “Margarito is talking a lot of shit, you gonna fight him?
He smiled and said “He’s gonna get it”
Margarito never got it
True FN story

On topic- like most have said, one the greats.
To this day I still can’t believe I thought Angel Manfredy was gonna whip his ass

Arturo Gatti was known for wars, not being a good boxer.

Everyone has an excuse but Mayweather's style was stylistically handable by anyone with brains. His workrate wasn't overwhelming. He had fragile hands that made him hesitant to let go. Everyone has an excuse AFTER the fight.

His tour with De La Hoya was also one of the best things ever.

Best build up to a fight in the last 20 years.
Felt like that fight had alot more buzz than May-Pac or May-Mac, but I think thats because De La Hoya had a better shot at winning.

Undeniably a great fighter. He stayed after it, never truly letting money or fame go to his head. Do wish he had fought a couple of guys sooner than he did, but he probably always beats Pacquiao.

Pacquiao blown up

I mean, the only people Manny ever beat at 147 were Cotto, Mosley, Bradley and Margarito (well that was 154). He beat some other cans named Clottey and Marquez, too. That doesn't really prove to me that he ever belonged at 147.

I know right? Straight up Bum of the Month list worthy right there ;)
