I can still tell it's cgi, tbh. Those movies I believe are some of the best. In each new installment, the ape's detail skyrockets.

Titanic could have been done in a real boat.. So though I somewhat agree, the CGI wasn't necessary.Titanic
The Abyss
T2
The seamless interaction of CGI and live action.
Whoever was directing Ewan McGregor did a stellar job!
"Right Ewan, a deadly Jedi hunter is going to light up 4 sabres a meter in front of you, intending to kill you.....what we want you to do is stand there as still as possible, weapon by your feet."
I contend that there's a big difference between low key CGI that's seamless, and "a great deal of the film" CGI that you have to forget about to enjoy like Jurassic Park.If you took somebody from 1985 and showed them.district 9, they would wonder how they made those awesome costumes.
Also, it's not just about "best cgi," it's about what cgi worked the best to make the best movie. But examples of simply solid cgi are fine as well.

Not gonna lie...that final few minutes of that movie had me like:
Though I'm struggling to think of any film with CGI where I couldn't immediately tell is was CGI.
Take the gold! take it.Is that no face?
They built a fuck-off replica to film most of the scenes in:
Gollumn in LoTR
Mandingo's bbc

Um, when you know it's not possible without. District 9 fits that. I forget it's CGIIsn't this sort of a self-defeating task? If you couldn't tell, and you didn't find out about it through a "making of" video or something like that, then you'd simply never know.
