What is proper trophy/belt etiquette? Do they stay at the gym?

So I won an amateur title. I didn't even know it was a tournament when my trainers entered me, lol, but I ended up winning and it came with a sweet belt. Unfortunately, I live abroad and I'm going to be returning to my home country, with no intention of necessarily returning. I want to ask for the belt to take home, but I also don't know if that is a breach of muay thai etiquette. My trainers don't speak English, so I won't be able to delicately explain that it'd be nice to take the belt home and I don't want to come off as ungrateful to the gym or their training.

Any of you guys know what the standard situation is on this?

Take it with you back home.
You fought for it its yours!

the gym owns you. you have no rights. the belt is not yours

Lol...well nevermind, my coach gave me the belt to take home, so I guess that's that.

I am curious though. Let's have a quick, unofficial straw poll on this topic..

In our gym, trophies are for the fighters but belts usually hang in the gym from about 2 weeks after the fight. IE fighter can take them home and shine 'em up and take pictures with friends/family/fans in that time.
