Find me a quote by anyone admitting they found burning an effigy of Grenfell Tower while chanting things like, "Stay in your homes, help is coming!" to be hilarious. Take your time. I'll wait.
Now, I freely admit that things like charging a dog owner with a hate crime because the dog barked at coloured person, or fouled the pavement outside their house, is a ridiculous waste of time and money. Especially when police lack both the resources and, in many cases, the intestinal fortitude to deal with real crime.
I also think it's grotesque that a man is convicted for a hate crime, without the case even being judged by a jury of his peers, for teaching a Pug dog to do a, "Nazi salute" when it hears the phrase, "Gas the Jews!". As Jonathon Pie pointed out, the comedian was, if anything, taking the piss out of Neo-Nazis by comparing them and their beloved Fuhrer to a cute little dog.
That said, there is clear blue water between using offensive language and images to make a legitimate point through the medium of comedy, and people just acting like ignorant, selfish cunts. The first should be defended to the death. The second? Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
