Viewership for Emelianenko’s Heavyweight World Grand Prix fights

  • 1.5 million – Bellator 198
  • 1.1 million – Bellator 208 (head-to-head with Terence Crawford vs. Jose Benavidez, major college football contests)
Digital

  • The Fedor-related Bellator Countdown shows have delivered over 7.1 million views on various platforms
Social Media

  • Bellator just secured its 1 millionth follower on Instagram – the morning after Fedor’s recent fight.
Attendance

  • Fedor has also helped draw for events in Chicago and New York – and the early returns for Los Angeles are very encouraging.
  • In fact, in Chicago attendance was up +51% and the gate was up +114%
    • 2.6 million people watched at least 1 minute of Fedor’s fight (LIVE at 5 a.m. and repeated later that afternoon) In Russia
    • So if you think fedors not a draw or is washed up or bellator can’t compete with ufc in la ur wrong I think ufc should worry cejudo vs dillishaw for a lot of money or fedor bader free I think it’s dana fucks all mma fans when he does this. I like Fedor too and was amped for the fight, but as far as drawing power goes Chael was definitely the A side here.

No one is a draw without a good platform . A promotion needs to have a strong media presence , like a TV show on a big channel . Affliction , Bodog and Pride in its final days and in the US didnt have the media presence that the UFC or Bellator currently have .

Nice yellow. 13k buys is utterly comical. Fedor was a good fighter but he did not sell…point blank period! I provided facts pissbelt!
Most fans never knew BodogFIGHT ever existed. It isn't all on the fighter, the org brings in viewers too. Do you honestly think Conor would sell so many PPVs without the UFC or Floyd? Brock Lesnar sure didn't keep K1 Hero*s alive with Dynamite USA's record breaking PPV sales and attendance.

So what?
UFC got its ELEVEN MILLIONTH follower on Instagram mere hours after an Artem Lobov fight.
UFC fight night 108 Lobov vs Swanson - set a GATE RECORD for ufc in Nashville.
UFC fight night 108 had higher ratings than Fedors fights once you add up all that pussy DVR shit.

Coker could have had all that, if he spent money on Lobov instead of overpaying Fedor. He fucked up big time, no wonder Bellator ratings have crashed so hard.

At one time Fedor vs Brett Roger's fight had broken viewership records

That was a huge milestone despite not being in the ufc nor having that type of push.

Fedor working with Coker and Bellator is one of the best scenarios that could've happened for Fedor. I'm glad they are happy with each other. The fact that Fedor trusted them enough to sign up for the tourney says a lot. He is content with the stability and treatment of respect from Bellator. The ufc probably wouldn't have known how to promote him and lost him between the tracks. They would have probably tried to tarnish his career with bad match ups.

I think most logical fans understand Fedor does have drawing power....................But what some fans question is his cost and demands worth it in the end for an org or does his pay handcuff an org future grow with talent long term.

One could argue the money spent on Fedor could easily be used to draw 3,4, or maybe even 5 top 10 fighters in their prime from the UFC when there contracts are up and now you have 8 to 14 fights a year from those guys instead of one or two a year from Fedor. Now they may not draw quite as high as Fedor but what they will do is help your avg viewership and attendance over the course of the year which allows you to charge more money for advertising across the board. With Fedor you probably only raising advertising prices for just that event. Kind of like hitting a couple home runs vs 10 doubles. Chances are the doubles will win you more games than two home runs will.

Even now, and in the US, Fedor is definitely a draw. He was in Strikeforce too. However like in SF, does he draw enough to make up for how much he is paid?

Coker is on record stating Fedor cards with Strikeforce didn’t draw a dime despite having a ridiculous contract.

The argument is and always will be, his drawing power being nowhere near what he’s worth.

If it wasn't worth it then I doubt Coker would have tried once again and paid top dollar for Fedor in Bellator after his experience in Strikeforce.

The reality here is there must be some intangibles and residual/indirect benefits to be had for an organization, that make paying for Fedor worth it.

For one, it gives the org. instant credibility as a top tier player.

Two, it might attract more talent which has shown to be proven true. Fedor was a catalyst puzzle piece in getting other top marquee names interested due to the credibility he gives the org.

Third, knowing that Fedor possesses goat status and still wants to fight a few more times, would it smart to allow him to go to the competition if you have the resources needed to secure him and are looking to become a top org that will battle for the number 1 spot in the mma landscape?

4th - what if he wins the damn tourney lol? He has gotten to the finals and is one fight away from doing it, it doesn't seem that unrealistic. Anything can happen.

If he wins then ohhhhhh all of a sudden Coker's plan worked. He allowed Fedor the platform to have the graceful walk off his career deserved. A strong point only Bellator can brag about doing in the future looking back retroactively.

These and many more intangibles and indirect benefits are in play that many of us keyboard analysts here at sherdog have no clue nor foresight into. What about social networks and marketing benefits? How about the prospect of making a card in Russia in the future now that Fedor has stepped down from the Russian mma board? You can already argue that having that contact with Fedor has helped bring fighters from his own team who are prospects and skilled fighters that can lend a good look to any org they are on.

Just for Coker to be able to pitch that he's got the greatest fighter of all time on his roster must get some deals approved alone.
