What does getting choked out feel like???

Yeebee and Q are wrong. You are correct: allowing yourself to get choked unconscious rather than tapping out is not a good idea. A friend of mine from Leo Dalla's told me they used to choke each other out after practice in an attempt to develop that so-called resistance. In actuality, they were damaging their bodies. Being choked out causes a rapid loss of blood pressure to the body. This is a desperate attempt by the body to restore blood flow to your head. carotids, heart, or nervous system. Constantly being choked out in this manner places a lot of stress on your system. It is not healthy and makes is easier to be choked out later.

Frodo is wrong. I know it thru personal experience.:D

I cannot believe that you would try and mislead these guys this way without trying it out for yourself Frodo. have you no shame?

Its not repeating in trying to strangle yourself out with a belt. Its resistance.

Its there and I have talked commonly about it.

Not to mention in and out of grappling for years can show a pattern.

It bugs me that you think 'others' are greater than we.:D

An 'expert' is one who knows what 'doesn't work' only.

In 2003, the u.s. airforce did an experiment geared towards giving pilots a resistance to hypoxia(pass out due to blood cut off to the brain). This happens a lot with all of the high g motions of flying a fighter plane. The pilots in the experiment each passed out about 30 times and their resistance/recovery rate showed NO IMPROVEMENT. (i have the article from an engineering/science journal, no online source but look around google and if youre clever you might find it)

it didn't get worse either though. it pretty much stayed the same. really though it can't be good for you haha.

getting choked out once could let you know how close you are in the future. so you know when you HAVE to tap. that's the only advantage i can see

I've never been choked out all the way but I've been to the point of seeing stars before I tapped. It takes me a few seconds to get back to reality after that happens.

Can you spot the differences between g force and a choke?

Like I said, its not u strangling yourself with a belt. You resist more and more properly.

Your 'muscles' do most as well as your awareness/reaction during the 'blue'.

Yes. You resist much better over time. Get the same choke on your chess buddy as you do your judo buddy and tell me.:icon_lol:

Q I think your getting the trained instinct on how to fight a choke confused with being able to resist a properly applied choke. Your average chess buddy is going to just flail around frantically. Where as a trained person will go into insctinct mode and turn into the choke, dig the chin in, etc to defend it.

So I think that both you and Frodo are in parts correct. But I don't agree that geting completely choked out repeatedly helps you develop any resistance to being choked. Just the training develops the instinct and muscle memory to perform defensive manuevers while you don't have full mental clarity.

For me I experienced a very quick tunnel vision then my vision faded, now I tap fast. It really sucked.

If you get choked out repeatedly, you'll end up like Q Mystic. Just try to understand his posts, and I need no more evidence to rest my case. :icon_excl

I agree with Frodo. I have always violently resisted chokes, and it only weakens your ability. That is, you get easier to choke out every time.

The few times I have been choked out, it felt alright, the weirdness is waking up and going 'oh yeah, I do jiu jitsu, sweet!' The sound gets incredibly strange, like someone is running reality through a granuliser with the speed way down, and the gran right up.

Liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiikkkkkkkkkkkke thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis.

Tap, you have already lost. :)

No his rambling is due to being thrown on the head too many times, he is a judoka y'know we hardly do any groundwork:rolleyes:

Hehe good one, does anyone know the exact reason why people go unconscious? Ive heard that its because the body needs more blood to the brain so it goes unconscious to lie down or the brain shuts of non-vital functions.

Blood runs oxygen in the brains. When the oxygen flow stops, brain shut's itself down.

Lol it's pretty simple. Blood circulation is cut off, your brain shuts off and your vision is fucked with. and next thing you know your looking up at people slapping you and talking to you lol.

If you mind, look at how this referee woke up the guy with Kwatsu (a technique of first aid for people choked out. In Japan judoka tend to not tap to choke in randori. That's a reason why japanese judoka were usually choke specialist, while est european tend to be armlock specialist)

i don't understand what just happened. How did he do that, and where do i learn that?

blood chokes (gi choke, for this example) just feel like pressure in your head/face, and when you wake up, just imagine waking up after THEE WORST HANGOVER EVER POSSIBLE :icon_twis

well, that's how i could describe it...just a baaaaad headache

When I got choked out i thought it was an awesome experience! when i came to i felt really fresh!
