I read the comic book adaptation with art by Ashley Wood. I absolutely loved the art but found they missed so many opportunities to add to the story but stay respectful to the game.

I'd would say that was the closest to the original's narriative. Except one thing destroyed it.

Snake firing the stinger missle, killing Grey Fox, and edited out the best death scene monologue since... well... I can't think of a better one than that.

That 'edit' killed the whole comic for me.

There's a youtube video with it as a motion comic with the original voice actors. They brought in the guy that voiced Ocelot in MGS3 to do the voice for Grey Fox, and I'd say it's an improvement.
