I thought since this was about video games over 20 years old, it would be more of a nostalgia thread than a thread about actual gaming. Mayberry was a good spot for it. @Madmick what do you think?

Mario 3 for 8 bit. That one's easy.
16 bit is TOUGH. You've got Mario World, Chrono Trigger, FF6, Super Metroid (which I personally think is overrated), and A Link to the Past.

Super Mario Bros 1. The sequels got much easier.

8 bit
Dragon Warrior 3+4
Mario 1 and 3
Metroid
Crystalis
Legend of Zelda
Tyson's Punch Out
Tecmo Super Bowl

16 bit
Mario World
A Link to the Past
Super Metroid
Super Punch Out
FF4, 5, 6
Donkey Kong Country
Chrono Trigger
Dragon Quest 5

I had a 4 player adaptor or my genesis and there were some great multiplayer games that we still play to this day:

MicroMachines
Gauntlet
General Chaos
Bomberman

Other great games:
Street Fighter 2
Streets of Rage
Sonic

Super Mario Bros 3
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

Double dragon 3 (nes), hang on (megadrive), super soccer (super nes), sf2 (super nes), final fight (super nes), punch out (nes), ea hockey (megadrive), street of rage (megadrive)...And neo geo lets say art of fighting 2 or ninja masters

8-bit, Super Mario 3. I'd wake up nearly every sat morning around 6am sharp to load up the game, play an hour or so and then watch cartoon when they actually had good cartoons, then play again. This was right around the peak of NES.

16-bit there are too many I'd consider very great, and nearly all have a special place depending on the period of my life at the time. I enjoyed the platformers in my earlier days, and then RPGs in my early teens.

8 bit - Super Mario Bros 3, Legend Of Zelda, Kirbys Adventure

16 bit - Super Mario World, Link to the Past, Super Metroid, Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo

8-Bit: Super Mario Bros. 3
16-bit: Sonic the Hedgehog 2

Fight me.
