Nog and Cro Cop. Nog in His prime and Cro Cop as close to his prime (he had a long kickboxing career by the time he went over to MMA).
It always pissed me off how people always seem to forget this and push the narrative of "oh look what happened to Cro Cop when he went to UFC and got schooled. Did he age overnight?"

They neglect that he had been kickboxing just at a professional level for 12 years prior, and not like working his way up in the pro league, but literally fighting and defeating a highly ranked, well-established Jerome LeBanner in his debut and then a loss to Ernesto Hoost, the #1 guy who was already a legend in just his first two pro fights. Even before his debut and then for 3 years after his loss to Hoost, he had 56 amateur boxing bouts before returning to K-1 for 4 years, fought in both K-1 and Pride simultaneously, and was a full time mixed martial artist for 6 years before transferring to the UFC. Dude had 23 pro kickboxing, 56 amateur boxing, and 27 MMA fights before entering the UFC; that's a fuckton.

Same thing with Nogueira; was competing in national level BJJ by 1996, then after 1999, 8 years in RINGS and Pride with a whopping 35 fights. When people scoff at them like "oh they faded overnight huh?" they are seriously neglecting their careers and just how good those guys were.

Where the heck did you get those rankings, namely the really early ones? For consistencies sake I used the Fightmatrix generated historical rankings since they're based on actual performance levels, quality of opponents and wins AND since they go back longer than posted rankings. Fightmatrix rankings in bold print.
