What are some essential films every person should see before they die?

The Clockwork Orange is the GOAT movie. Everything about it is just perfect.

A bit more recent, but Ex Machina should be on everyone’s list, that’s a great movie...
 
Decided to watch In Bruges on the strength of that post. 7 minutes in, im not disappointed.
 
Overrated Oscar bait.

I disagree, its not easy going perhaps and something you need to be in the mood for but Oscar bait for me is more cinema that's not really very ambitious and gets by on a bland respectability/politics, basically modern Speilberg.

A half dozen or more of the Alfred Hitchcock movies are absolute must see
The early Bond films with Sean Connery
Sound of Music - perhaps the best musical of all time
