Watching the fight last night, couldn't understand how a 40 year old Werdum could maintain the level of output he did for 25 minutes. This guy is a heavyweight.

Very puzzling

Definitely has good cardio. Especially at 40

Looked like he could have fought another couple of rounds as well. Werdum has a better gas tank than McGregor.

Well, you are talking about the only fighter to have won the cardio battle against Cain.

Him and rda are in the same camp. The way rda was so fresh in 5th rd vs Pettis and the way werdum looked vs cain at the crazy pace fight.....

You expect certain supplements were used?

Some fighters just don't have good cardio in comparison to other fighters. It's a recipe that has so many unknowns.

But a fighter with good cardio is never stronger than the average fighter at the division

He's got good cardio, but laying off power strikes is a reason for it. Fighters who throw down will gas. Also never has to sprawl/defend TD's from the clinch cuz he can just pull guard or flop to his back.

were in the same camp.

RDA left kings MMA after he lost to alvarez, unfortunately.

Some people have a naturally higher aerobic capacity than others, without training. People who have an average aerobic capacity can never match that no matter how much training they do. McGregor probably has a low to average aerobic capacity, because I doubt that he doesn't work hard at cardiovascular training.

This. Throwing haymakers for 2 mins will gas you out. Werdum was very efficient with his strikes. He does have really good cardio which is rare among HWs though.

The commentators pointed it out, that Werdum likes to really a lot on the basics - jabs and straights, and he does it very well. Not going for power shots can save you a lot of energy.

Werdum trains with an elite coach, paces himself better than 99% of the fighters and he does not carry much muscle mass.

so you are saying that some people, with no training, sitting doing a sedentary job and eating cheetos, will always have better cardio than a regular person who has been training for marathons for the past ten years?

...because that sounds like complete bullshit. its funny that you bring up mcgregor because its almost as if this whole ludicrous statement is just an excuse for his poor cardio.

you know that he never runs, right? and that noone else at his camp ever achieved anything, so he never gets pushed because he's working with journeymen at best? and he's surrounded by yes-men, you know all that, right?

theres no point trying to evaluate his cardio unless he actually runs, like literally everyone else does, and actually tries to find decent quality training partners, like everyone else does. saying "oh im sure he must work hard" and watching him gas out every time he has to fight more than two rounds isnt really gonna cut it

Yeah he has that Big Nog type cardio where he can just go on and on it seems. When he’s fighting like this. Feel like he’s looked somewhat gassed in other fights. Could be a mental thing too, if he feels he’s in control etc.

And people wonder why every thread becomes a McGregor argument. You're just as bad as the nuthuggers who try to squeeze him into every conversation.

I was surprised, I mean 8 takedown attempts (1 success) and fighting a guy like Tybura who frankly is very large heavyweight.
