"We Bring The Fight" - Dutch Kickboxing Documentary

Thank you
Great documentary with some huge names

Will watch after work

Scrolled through and saw that they addressed the hard sparring that dutch guys do daily

Thanks for posting. We do spar hard over here :)

Friday we turn things up. But my coach fought a lot in Thailand and lived there for years so he teaches us like how he was taught in Thailand. Go 50% back and forth back and forth so that you both see and are able to react to everything. Coach beleives it is a more "help me help you" type of situation.

I knew of the different philosophies on training/sparring but this was very interesting too see. Rob Kaman being one of my all time favorite fighters love the Dutch style

Theres a video on youtube with interviews with a bunch of MMA guys. Dillashaw, Nelson, Cerrone, Jon Jones, Josh Thompson and Overeem.

EVERYONE advised against hard sparring except Overeem, who said something like I always go 100% and I don't get hit that much in sparring.

Out of all the interviewees, Overeem was the fighter with the most losses by KO. I LOVE dutch style but honestly the hard sparring is super dangerous and very unhealthy to your brain health.

Even a guy like Michael Johnson, who looks like a demon in sparring at Henri Hooft's, has gotten mushed on his feet so many times at this point that i wonder if he'd actually do better going light.

Lol yea there is no need for it. Take heat in the ring...in a fight. Not in the gym

Geez they weren’t exaggerating, that was some hard sparring! Haha.

Can’t believe they do that every day.

Most Dutch gyms spar very hard. I personally know fighters who train at various gyms in Holland who said they have headaches after every training!
Can you imagine training 6x a week and do that for 5 years with headaches after every training? Your brain will be like pudding.

Another aspect that is lacking is defense. Most Dutch gyms focus mostly on offense and don't pay much attention to defense. Their way of defending punches is by absorbing them with your gloves glued to your head. This way you still take damage.

It's also the fighters who fight more intelligently and evasive who can continue the longest. Look at Saenchai, Mayweather or Bernard Hopkins for instance. They don't get hit much and had very long careers.

Compare it to a Gago Drago, Chahid, Pornsane, who've been in all out wars. Their career ended or went downhill in their mid 20s already.

In most gyms in the Netherlands where I have trained, it's once a week hard sparring. You must wear 2 shinprotectors on each leg, so you can kick pretty hard without damaging your sparring partner. Also you have to wear 16oz gloves during sparring.

I find that wearing more protective gear and bigger gloves only leads to guys throwing harder as there isn't as much fear of hurting shins, wrists or knuckles.

The first video that appeared on my feed after watching this an hour ago was “most concussed fighters in mma”….

Personally I hate headgear. All it does is ruin your peripheral vision and make it harder to see strikes. First time I ever sparred with head gear I took a a full power headkick that I didn't even see that rattled my brain.

I've never worn one and don't plan to start.

It doesn't protect your brain, makes your head a bigger target and as you say it reduces your vision. It's only good to protect from superficial damage like cuts and bruises to your face.
