ok now i know were all hyped from saturday. and yes i put donaire in my sig. but lets be rational. hes not top 5 p4p and he sure as hell isnt top 3.

putting him ahead of sergio martinez is insane and putting him ahead of the klits and jmm is just downright disrespectful. in fact when you think about it, he might not even be top 10. hell boxrec doesnt have him in the top 25 (which i disagree with)

so lets just all calm down, take a deep breath and examine this. hes only had 27 fights and is a very young 28. he KOd darchinian and of course montiel in impressive fashion, but no names other than that. however he has been KOing guys left and right which leads me to believe he will be very very good. but is he really so much more worthy than 15 other guys that he moves up to the top 5 automatically? no, no he is not.

personally, i see him somwehre between 8-12 p4p

and you?

I care more about the BW rankings than P4P rankings.

His skill is far superior to the klits sorry. Donaire is number 4 maybe 5 p4p. Weather you agree or not the mutha fucka is tight

your crazy man. dominating the heavywieght division for a decade isnt better than KOing a couple guys? it aint about skill its about accomplishment.

Donaire belongs in the top 5 p4p. Maybe not ahead of Martinez, but I definitely place him ahead of Marquez and Wlad. P4P rankings were made as a gauge to determine who the best fighter is regardless of weight and size and simply by skills. Donaire's ability to land from the outside, his speed and athleticism, and ability to counter his opponents is top 3/4 in the world right now.

Hes running over his competition and has been doing it against world class fighters since the Vic fight. His fight with Montiel was supposed to be a war. Instead it was Donaire's stepping stone to superstardom.

He deserves that place among the elite of the world.

Can't put him ahead of Serg, Marquez, Lopez or the Klits. Don't even TRY talking about it until he can spark out Agbeko in fashion.

wow ahead of marquez? really? the guy who fought tooth and nail with pacquiao? besides losing to floyd after having to come up 10 lbs hes KOd a couple of strap holders and it appears only age will take him down.

and i was under the impression p4p rankings were based on how you are beating top level competition, not how good you are.

I thought I remembered Donaire being heavily favored, I could be wrong but for some reason that sticks out in my mind. Once you saw them in the ring together you knew it was going to be over soon, the gap in skill was immense.

I wouldn't go quite that far.

Since beating Vic he's faced Luis Maldonado who has a pretty record but outside of a draw with the (vastly overrated at the time) Cristian Mijares has lost every time he's faced someone of note, Moruti Mthalane who's a solid South African boxer but nothing special, Raul Martinez who is good but not great, Rafael Concepcion who's entertaining but certainly not world class, Manuel Vargas who was made to jump up in weight and again isn't world class (and was coming off a loss), Hernan Marquez who was also coming off a loss and hasn't beaten anyone of note and Volodymyr Sydorenko who was world class... but was 1-2 in his previous 3 bouts.

That's not to criticise his competition... it's not like he's been facing scrubs and no-hopers, but trying to oversell it as "world class" just isn't fair.

Fair enough, but the guys that he has beaten who were supposed to be his stiffest of tests (namely Vic and Montiel), hes dominated. Montiel was supposed to give Donaire that "test" type of fight this past weekend and he got laid out.

And then with Sydorenko, he gave Moreno two tough fights in their title bouts. Against Donaire, his face was turned into ground beef. Just a little food for thought as well.

Yea, Donaire entered as the favourite (2-1), still no one would have expected Donaire to run through Montiel as easily as he did Saturday.

I wouldn't put him ahead of Martinez right now. I would have floyd/PAC and then Martinez with Donire 4th or 5th. There are alot of fights coming his way that he will be able to win his way to the top spot but it would have to be a yr or 2 away. I would like to see him fight Perez next and Cab after that.

it was great to watch yeah? can't believe that ref let it continue after that knock down, even if it was only a few seconds

It was as if the ref made a bet on Montiel. He really wanted him to get up even pulling his gloves begging him to fight:icon_chee Hope Montiel comes back strong. I actually want to see him fight Vic for some reason. Could be a good scrap

Agreed, it's not the deepest of divisions. He was beating up a bunch of midgets, dude needs to step up to feather and fight some real dudes.

i really hate... sorry not hate, despise P4P rankings. how can you rank a HW against a BW? because of their performance? there's no true measure as it's subjective. I always rely on weight rankings as they can slug it out become champions in their weight division.

with the ref thing, if you are the defending champion and has belts on the line, boxing tradition usually gives another fighting chance to the champion in case of knockdowns. of course, the second he cannot defend himself, it's already over. it's a boxing thing and people who have been there competing for championship would know. My coach, who used to be a world champion, explained it to me as I am also not agreeing with the referee's decision to continue the fight.

Dude just won 2 more belts. Give him some props. P4p is just a popularity contest.
