Washington DC 16-17 year olds allowed to vote?

Who cares, let kids get interested in things.

Most probably won't care though.

If your ideas are so strong you wouldn't worry about new voters.

You fear the weakness of your positions.

I fear the ease at which younger people with no life experience can so easily be lead / mislead. This is why religion, military, and cults want young people because they are so easily swayed by so little. The left / liberals have also done a very good job of getting into education and ensuring the only view students hear in school is from the left. This is obviously a generalization but I don't believe I ever had a right leaning teacher who ever spoke about politics when in high school. I had many left leaning teachers who made sure to tell us about their politics almost daily... even in course like electronics where politics played no role.

the age should be raised higher if anything

I'm torn on this because I hate seeing how we treat younger people as a society. We have pushed their ability to choose ANYTHING well beyond what it was in the past. Alcohol moved to 21, 21 to gamble, smoking moved to 21 in some states, but somehow voting was moved from 21 to 18... kids are told to grow up and get their shit together, but then they're still treated like little kids in so many aspects of life.

I don't know the solution, but I can't believe that letting them vote in a presidential election at 16 makes sense at all.

None of the asinine ideas coming from either political party surprises me any more. It's all about control or manipulation in order to gain or maintain control in one fashion or another. American politics is a business and our politicians are every bit as manipulative, deceitful and power hungry as any corporate CEO, it's one of the reasons why our government is so inextricably linked to corporate interests.

They have just as good of chance to vote liberal as they do to vote conservative.

If you have a strong message then they'll be influenced by it. If your position is weak, they won't.

You fear them voting against your message because it's weak.

16 year old would vote for the left because everybody knows people who are young, dumb and immature vote left.

If you think 16 year olds are responsible enough to operate a 2 ton vehicle going in excess of 70 mph on busy highways then they're responsible enough to vote for a candidate that won't even do anything of real significance anyway.

Let them vote, most won't care enough to go through with it anyway.

16 is old enough to vote, because civic participation selects for civic awareness.

Or because their immersion in the Liberal/Progressive message is near total from their schools, social media, musical, sports and TV/Movie heroes and heroines. They simply aren't exposed to the conservative message, for good or ill, to the degree they are the Left. Hard to argue effectively when you don't have near the access as often. Pretty much the only real exposure they get are the loudest mouths with the craziest messages that manage to bash their way through the increasing obstacles being put in front of conservative speech.

I don't indulge in your liberal indoctrination CT fantasy sorry.

Everyone has access to the same media and internet. This past election showed us pretty well that conservatives have no problem accessing their junk news. FOX news has more viewers than the other networks combined. Right wing talk radio still dominates. Right wing print media still has a huge market share.

Your message is weak, especially to youth, that's the reality, and you're frightened by it.

I'll put a room of 16 year olds up against that bunch any day of the week as far as who is more informed
I disagree with that as a blanket statement, but I would take a room of 16 year olds who already want to vote over a room sampled from the top 30% of eligible-to-vote Americans for sure.

At 16 all I cared about was getting my dick wet, smoking weed, and dropping acid.

Maybe I should've been more into politics.

I am not sure about that. I voted first time when I was 16 local elections for the sort of district.
I voted for the conservatives. Because they have been in power already and by all means did a good job they used to get over 60%.
If 16-year olds cant distinguishes between conservative and liberal principle I would blame the school system really.

But to say young people are dumb and immature and that's why they are voting left is part of the problem.
They tend to be voting left because they agree more with that ideology.
You just like to call people stupid because it is beyond your bubble that people might view things differently.

How many 16-year olds have held a job, been married and raised children? What the hell does the average 16 year old know about life? It tells you something about the Left when they have to target criminals, homeless people, illegals, women who watch Ellen and teenagers for votes. As far as I am concerned, there should be higher standards when it comes to voting. Have a written exam or raise the age to 25.

Fuck that.

You should have some real world experience before you take part in electing someone. Most 18 year olds probably shouldn't vote.

In Canada the majority of the voting stations are located in high schools -- so I think we would see high participation here, not sure about the states.

I'd be against it because youth have very little economic skin in the game via taxation, easy to support something when you don't have to pay for it.

I'd say there are alot more 16 year olds who know more about current politics than adults (due to education in schools being current). Not to mention you can drive a fucking Ford Ram size vehicle at 16.

Also plenty of adults have procreated, carry weapons, drink alcohol and drive large/fast vehicles that I don;t want to be around let alone vote.

I would however, rather people be forced to be more educated on their candidates than lower the age to vote.

You have to be 21 to buy beer and cigarettes, 18 to get drafted or enlist in the military (exceptions of course) or buy porn, 17 for a driver's license, but 16 to vote?

This shit is suspect as hell.

Tide Pods and snorting condoms.

16 year olds are idiots.
if anything we should be raising the age to vote not lowering it...

I hope Washington DC ends up with some kid like in that show, The Mayor, that's what they would deserve
