I think in general, fights shouldn't be stopped if the attacker hits 90% arms.
Blocking punches is active defense and the attacker could tire himself out trying to force a finish like that spamming punches.
Lesnar vs. Carwin is the perfect example.
Just because it doesn't look good isn't reason enough to me, just my opinion.

u cant turtle for 5 minutes and not expect to have the fight stopped.

As much as I enjoy seeing Chael punched in the face, it was a good stoppage. Could’ve been prolonged but Chael was done.

Once Chael curls into a ball it's over.

He's not much for fighting through adversity.

Chael wasn't necessarily done but he wasn't advancing. He waited in the turtle. Kudos to him though because he should've been KOed in the first 3 seconds

All Chael had to do was move the slightest bit when Dan told him too if he wanted to continue. He was warned 3 times to move and he didn't budge, he was done and obviously wanted a way out and Dan did what he is there to do. Good stoppage as far as I'm concerned.

Even if it was stopped early Sonnen wouldn't have been able to get back to his feet and put together a good enough offensive to finish out the round. Fedor did look a little fatigued when he was throwing those punches toward the end but his transitions from striking to locking up an arm bar if he needed to are at a blink of an eye.

It was obvious Chael wanted to quit after his hailmary attempt at going for a submission failed, he tried to surprise fedor and flip him and get a RNC but it failed and that was his last effort to win. He had enough, he was getting his ass kicked and wanted out of the fight. He clearly wanted the ref to stop it but didn't want to tap.

Chael got his ass handled to him by Sambo specialist after all that bullshit talk that " Sambo sucks".

Looked like the typical Bellator fake fight. Certainly anything with Chael in it looks shady as fuck.

Yup it's almost like a submission loss when it happens like that.

"Move or the fight will be stopped" and you just lie there blocking the punches.

Yes, but it is understandable since the referee did warn him and Chael acknowledged that.

Exactly, I don't see why this is even being questioned.

Guys holding your face balled up in fetal position is totally defending yourself!

Chael basicslly begged the ref to stop the fight.

No mate. Chael gave up. I really wanted Fedor to decimate Chael but uh, I wanted a better stoppage than that. Not just the guy straight up quitting lol.

If they don’t stop fights when guys turtle up and does nothing to get out of the situation, we will have several deaths or brain damaged fighters. It was a good stoppage. Chael wanted out, and he got out.
