War Room OT Discussion v2

Goethe is brilliant. In the beginning it wasn't the word as the bible says. Nor was it thought. It was action.

‘Tis written: “In the Beginning was the Word.”
Here am I balked: who, now can help afford?
The Word?—impossible so high to rate it;
And otherwise must I translate it.
If by the Spirit I am truly taught.
Then thus: “In the Beginning was the Thought”
This first line let me weigh completely,
Lest my impatient pen proceed too fleetly.
Is it the Thought which works, creates, indeed?
“In the Beginning was the Power,” I read.
Yet, as I write, a warning is suggested,
That I the sense may not have fairly tested.
The Spirit aids me: now I see the light!
“In the Beginning was the Act,” I write.

Voted (early) today. Norway has a full month of early voting, from August 10th to today. It's nice to live in a country where the establishment really wants you to be able to vote.

Anyway, 4 years ago I voted for the People's Liberal Party, which is essentially a right libertarian party. This year I voted Labour, in no small part due to me reading this subforum the last 2 years. It's been striking how badly the right is able to defend their positions, and it's been surprising how little integrity there is. I've definitely been driven leftwards politically: I used to be interested in things like minimizing government spending and debt, but I've nothing but distaste for those sorts of positions now.

We've had a conservative government the last 4 years, where the second largest party in the coalition was largely voted in for pro-privatization and anti-immigration policies. It's been striking how much they've been curtailed by the social democratic system we have in place: the leader of that party, now the minister of finance, has been jokingly referred to as the most socialist finance minister Norway has ever seen. It seems we've converged almost fully to our own unique Norwegian model, that is distinguished from the other Scandinavian countries primarily by being more socialist. The key to that has historically been the Labour Party, who were largely responsible for rebuilding Norway after WW2. Up to this year they've seen upwards of, and even above, 40% support, which is a bit too much for my liking. This year they've been bleeding badly, so I thought I'd toss them a vote, knowing that I could've voted for almost anything without affecting the trajectory of Norway much at all.

It feels safe, and I think that really counts for something.

Anyone watching the show tonight? I watch everything generally, but this one just doesn't have anything I really care about. Wanted to see Tucker against a decent opponent and RDA is one of my favorites to watch, but not worth planning a night around. I'll catch on Fight Pass in a month.

I watch them all, but this one's certainly got "skippable" written all over it.

I was going to, but my usual haunt went for college football instead

I'm watching but it's more cause I made plans yesterday and have nothing tonight

Nunes vs Shevchenko should be good. Magny-RDA has some potential. Very different styles, new weight class for RDA.

ed: nvmnd, RDA just exposed the lol out of Magny's ground game. Looked like a blue rolling with a brown.

I can't believe you guys modded such a safe spacing left wing liberal to kill free speech around here.

I think we now have like 7 mods in here so the only thing would be over activity with modding at this point. Bad thing is some here would argue pan is a lefty. It's hard to appease those people

Yeah those people will complain, despite pan's excellent track record here.

So there's you, Mick, Rup, Limbo, and now Pan who are regulars. I see Fogie around from time to time but he's not as frequent as he used to be. Oh Zank as well. It doesn't sound like overkill but it does sound like enough.

Unfortunately, my marvelous support thread was deleted, but I distinctly remember suggesting Pan (and two others) as a mod that would satisfy the requests for a right wing mod.

It's obvious that there are some who wouldn't be satisfied by that, but it was equally obvious that crowd had no reasonable suggestions.

If there are any whining about Pan, you can direct them to PM me, where I can kindly inform them to get fucked.

What's weird is that there are only two left-leaning mods (both new), but you still get way more complaining from the right. That reminds me of something...

That the right controls the white house and congress?

Referring to the way a lot of right-wingers think that American society is unfair to white people because it's a little less unfair in their favor than it used to be. Instead of 100% right-wing mods, there are two left-leaning ones, and now we just added another right-leaning one, but he's not from the crazy wing.
