This could be fun from a socially psychological POV. It's mostly just a music thread, but there's science to be done here!

Everyone post your favorite music, whether it be a favorite song, favorite band, just a general genre or something with a message, etc..

Your first post/source will be your primary example regarding your taste in overall music, whether it be lyrically, musically, etc.

Let's go, people.

different songs for different moods

I can't really narrow it down to one song.
I love jazz and rock with great lyrics. That is such a huge chunk of music, I don't know where to begin with a great example.

I've been listening to Radiohead lately (they're a top 5 band for me) and this song, No Surprises, is so thought provoking (I posted it earlier toda in some thread about suicide).

Great music. Amazing lyrics.

A heart that's full up like a landfill
A job that slowly kills you
Bruises that won't heal
You look so tired, unhappy
Bring down the government
They don't, they don't speak for us
I'll take a quiet life
A handshake of carbon monoxide

With no alarms and no surprises
No alarms and no surprises
No alarms and no surprises
Silent, silent

This is my final fit
My final bellyache

With no alarms and no surprises
No alarms and no surprises
No alarms and no surprises, please

Such a pretty house
And such a pretty garden

No alarms and no surprises
No alarms and no surprises
No alarms and no surprises, please

anything by these guys takes me back when I had life by the tail

+ Contemporary symphonic music like Rautavaara, Hovhaness, but not degenerate/"weird for the sake of weird" stuff like Shoenberg.

+ '70s/'80s rock, pop, radio stuff.

- Can't stand even 5 seconds of hip hop or punk.

When I opened this thread I was working to:

Somewhere between...

Your numbers up you have to go
The system say's "I told you so"
Stocked in a train like a truckload of cattle
Sent off to slaughter in a useless battle
Thousands of us sent off to die
Never really knowing why
Fuck the system they can have me
I don't need society
I don't need society

Before you know it you're in the corp
Grab your gear boy you're off to war
Stocked in a train like a truckload of cattle
Sent off to slaughter in a useless battle
Thousands of us sent off to die
Never really knowing why
Fuck the system they can have me
I don't need society
I don't need society

You were an apple pie clone living at home
Never straying to far from your phone
Now son make it through enemy lines
You must hurry there's not much time
Made it sir. They're gonna drop the bomb
No time to evacuate, they'll call our moms
Fuck the system, they can't have me
I don't need society
I don't need society

...and...

[Chorus:]
Keep on chooglin'
Keep on chooglin'
Keep on chooglin'
Chooglin',
Chooglin'.

Maybe you don't understand it.
But if you're a natural man,
You got to ball and have a good time
And that's what I call chooglin'.

Here comes Mary lookin' for Harry,
She gonna choogle tonight.
Here comes Louie, works in the sewer,

He gonna choogle tonight.

[Chorus]

(primal screaming)

[Chorus]

If you can choose it, who can refuse it,
Y'all be chooglin' tonight.
Go on, take your pick, right from the git go,
You gotta choogle tonight.

[Chorus]

(more screaming)

Oh, we're Creedence!
Clearwater!
Revival!

I love the Cult! I finally saw Ian and Billy this past year live, they were awesome! I had missed two shows previously, one cancelled and one my being a car accident.

Funny/true story regarding the car accident one. Back in the 90's I was working at Toy's R us, the same night they were playing my hometown (Ottawa). I was going to see them the next night in MTL to make a weekend out of it. While working, some guy in a giant fur coat, two hot bitches and a kid with a shopping cart full of video games were in the store. I was in the back when I was told about the unique characters walking around, turns out it was Ian fucking Astbury lol. He was leaving the store and getting into a limo when i saw him. He was heading to the venue and was about an hour late, what a dick move. Lenny Kravitz opened for them and apparently the crowd was without anyone on stage for a good half hour after his extended set, all because he was buying some kid video games

I got into a car accident the next morning, totaled my beloved Nissan 300zx. I should have went to the damn show at home, but in hindsight it's a great story to tell

This is my fav Cult song

edit, I can't pick a fav song, so many great ones

so many great tunes from several decades, they were always ahead of their time

The first fists of furious thunder--
you chop 'em down with the side of your glass.
Stick of dynamite for believers.
It's just a breath away, and your ready to blast.
Into the shadow again.
Into the shadow again.

No one said it would feel this good
with the warmth of smoke in your lungs,
and the taste of blood on your tongue.
No one said it would feel this good.
Give it away. Give it away.

You turn it on for believers.
You turn it on for the fame.
Trigger happy eight millimeters
are calling out your name.

Into the shadow again.
Into the shadow again.

No one said it would feel this good
with the warmth of smoke in your lungs,
and the taste of blood on your tongue.
No one said it would feel this good.
Give it away. Give it away.
Call it off when i stop breathing
in 2029. Coast clear.
Just when you thought it was cold...
Still calling out your name.
Just when you thought it was cold...
Still calling out your name.
Well, it's calling out, out, out...

No one said it would feel this good
with the warmth of smoke in your lungs,
and the taste of blood on your tongue.
No one said it would feel this good.
Give it away. Give it away.
