VIDEO: man shot by police in Baton Rouge (Alton Sterling thread)

Cops don't normally go out there and kill people all willy-nilly. Usually there's a damn good reason - like they had a gun. I don't think anyone would be ok with anyone gunning someone down for shits and giggles.

I agree most of the time they don't. As far as what people would be ok with? I honestly don't know. A cop killed this kid who answered the door with a wii remote in his hands and the cop still got off with no charges. I mean how the fuck does that even happen?

Not sure if this was already posted or not, but it's interesting. Shows how a gun in the pocket can still be used.

And this may have already been discussed, but I haven't read the entire thread...

There were 6 shots heard on the video. Do we know that all 6 were from the cops? Or were any of them the suspect's? And who shot first?

Are you insane? Anywhere near his gun?

Look, being a cop is hard. Part of why it's hard is you may find yourself in dangerous situations. That does NOT give you the right to protect yourself first at the expense of someone else just because you think a threat may escalate. The perp was in no position to threaten without the cops being in position to THEN address the threat with force. Being scared is not sufficient to justify force. It's hard work. We entrust them to not panic. It's great responsibility.

Any movement towards his gun would be a justifiable shooting given the other factors in this case. No, you do not deserve the chance to go for your gun, touch your gun, pull out your gun, point your gun, or shoot your gun.

I agree... but he already served his time. Considering all the facts available, I wouldn't put this near the top, other than to remind BLM that white people would look stupid supporting Jared Fogle.

This.

BTW, watch the video I posted. A gun can be fired with our hand in your pocket or even on top of your pocket. People don't seem to understand that.

Uh.... Yes. Actually it does. That is literally how our laws in regards to fighting with the police work. That is LITERALLY how the escalation of force laws work with Police. This is the problem with our society. That is precisley how our laws work, yet people like you don't even seem to realize it. He didn't even have to move towards the gun, and he probably didn't. He's flat on his back, with two Police Officers on top of him, all three people involved in this scenario knowing and understanding that he has a gun. He establishes that, after both police officers say at least 4 times "he's got a gun" and one officer grabs his wrist and attempts to pin it to the ground and tells him to stop moving and the other one draws his pistol and points it at his face from less than a foot away, again all of them knowing he's armed, his response is to raise his head off the ground and yell "F**K YA'LL!!" and continue to try to fight with them. He's established that his intent is that he is going to continue to fight with them while armed, even after they have introduced the threat of lethal force into the scenario. That's all that is required under our laws for the Police to shoot and kill you. People need to learn and understand that, then we won't have situations like this, and we won't have posts like this. At that point, whether he ever actually made a move for the gun or not is irrelevant. He decided to continue to fight while he was armed. Intent is all that matters in these cases.

But, but, but, he didn't intend to fight with the cops. He was just extremely careless.
