This was 6 years ago, when he was still a young kid.

He won 1st place in both black belt divisions he competed in (standard and ADCC rules).

This was at welterweight.

Note, at this point in time, Tony Ferguson was a blue/purple belt, fresh off TUF. If you want to get an idea of the difference in grappling experience.

I suggest you re-watch John Wick 1 & 2, his grappling in that was amazing.

Isn't NAGA sorta bush league compared to ADCC? Genuine question. I know shit about grappling.

I know there's NAGA and Grapplers Quest which seem to have more wrestlers in them, and then there's ADCC, and UAEJJF and IBJJF, supposedly the best BJJ tourneys.

NAGA is held regionally as well, right?

Khabib is the only grappler I respect. However, I am not going to change my rule for him. It doesn't matter if you are a black belt in your gym or some silly BJJ tournament.

The only black belt that matters is the one obtained inside the Octagon. Therefore, if you don't use your BJJ inside the Octagon, I don't think you are an MMA black belt. You may be a gym black belt, but that has not been very successful in the modern UFC.

Jon Jones was a 23 year old white belt submitting so called BJJ black belts, inside the cage.

Haha,...cmon, don't tell me you didn't hear the conference call w/ Tony and Khabib last February, Tony kept yelling "I'm the real John Wick!"......probably the most cringe thing of all the cringe things he's done.

I'm just hoping Khabib makes weight and doens't end up in the hospital again instead of the cage.

Where I'm at, at least, NAGA is way bigger than IBJJF. Everybody goes to NAGA tournaments, and they'll have 2-3x as many competitors. IBJJF is Gracie Barra, plus maybe a handful of other schools.

wow. he's been defeating chickens for a long time

kinda shits on bjj a bit, no?

typical casual. a guy doesnt get better because u know his name over the UFC. there are plenty of elite grapplers and wrestlers u will never see in the UFC competing.

My 10 year old son trains under Samuel Monin in southern France... he was a NAGA champ and like 10X time HW champion of France in BJJ....also IBJJF champ of Europe at HW... he is a celebrated BJJ player.

I believe NAGA is fairly legit when guys like that are competing there.

I agree. Just like wrestling, bjj means fuck all if you can't implement it during an mma fight. Accolades mean nothing once striking is added to the equation. If you cant do your thang while your opponent is trying to take your head off then it's prestige means nothing.

What Black Belts Jones submitted?Belfort? Not a black belt imo, Machida as well.Jones is very good on the ground.
You can take it the other way, many mma black belts would look like newbies agains true bjj black belts.

how many fights in the octagon has habib had since then? and against who?
how many fights tony have since then.
cage experience is more important than a bjj contest.

Imo it's a pretty hard thing to tell, for sure not JDS, Machida and many guys like this from mma are not true black belts
