Video game prices have remained the same for nearly 3 decades so why do we complain?

i read it and even quoted it. if you're going to get butthurt over public posts, maybe you shouldn't make them.

You quoting me saying buying a game from a shop is downloading? That was mighty clever of you.

Oh, I'm cross-posting the shit out of this:

Agreed. They should cut on what make the games so expensive to make and just create games with good gameplay and little teams.

Got to spend 200 million brainwashing the kids so they bug their parents non stop for it

The alternative is the F2P model that EA clearly hopes to exploit, eventually, in all AAA games, no different than on smartphones. That's what we have now, so you know what? I just calculated for inflation. Assuming that in 1987 the average price of a game was $60 MSRP, then adjusting for inflation, today, the price would be $133 MSRP.

Sold. Fucking sold. Please, God, yes, please, please, God, please, yes, God, please, Godplease, yes Godplease, Please God yes Godplease yes, fucking charge me $133.

Best fucking deal since the Louisiana Purchase.

I would never pay 133 for a EA product, the buggy shit is hardly worth 60. And that is American so I would be paying way more almost 200.

Who said that it had to be EA? Furthermore, how are you not seeing the bigger picture, here? It's fucking $80 to fully unlock Vader: just Vader.

The price of a single legendary character fully upgraded + the base cost of the game = $140 is already past the inflation MSRP.

I know I was agreeing with you guess I didn't word it right. If they did charge more for games to "cover costs" they would still be trying to force micro transactions on us its just worth way to much money.

Yes, my hypothetical is purely that. It will never again be the reality. It's as realistic as selling Louisiana for the same price today adjusted for inflation.

But wouldn't it be nice? $133 never sounded so cheap. Fucking this casino bullshit. Keep it in those hellpits of despair and misery.

The sad part is though, a large amount of the budget of AAA titles actually goes on marketing, not on game development. On COD modern warfare 2 it was around 2 thirds of the $3/400 million budget.

please explain how gta: london or doom 2 are dlc again.

i'm all (metaphorical, mr pedantic) ears.

or better: please explain how current dlc is "the same product" as physical discs i can resell.

Learn to read and all shall become clear.

it's clear as glass. you think that old expansions on disc are the same thing as dlc, and you stubbornly chose to double-down, even in the face of piles of evidence indicating that's not the case.

i'm glad you added irony to it all via the whole "back-pedal" thing, though (i called you out for backpedaling pages before)

It's pretty rare that I pay full price for a game. There's so much shit to play, I can wait for the price to come down before I play it.

In the rare event I feel like I have to buy a game full price, it's because I plan on putting a ton of hours into it. like Red Dead 2 will be for me.

Congratulations. You should have spent that time learning to read.

This is something I've never understood. Modern gamers are so spoiled. With the recent backlash against EA I find myself having mixed feelings. On one hand I do think EA could have handled this better but on the other hand I'm not completely against loot boxes. Things have changed a lot since the early days of gaming. Think of all the work that goes into making these beautiful cut scenes. Everyone wants hundreds of hours of content and nobody wants to read text anymore therefore companies are paying top voice talent to record character voices.

Now go back in time when we didn't have any of these things and guess what? I still paid the same price for those games. I remember buying some N64 games for 60 dollars or more when they were brand new. If I remember correctly Sega Genesis games were priced at 49.99.

So why are so many people complaining about DLC?

The margins on AAA games are much larger because unit sales are much higher.

Nintendo would sell 20x less games on the N64 than on the Switch.

Indy games don’t cost $50, they cost $10.

Shit should get cheaper, even taking inflation into account, over time.

Also games 30 years ago had everything baked in. Nothing else to buy. So games are at least x2 as expensive with DLC then they were say 10 years ago. Oh and they’re better but the cost of making better also goes down or stays the same as the production tools also get better.

I don’t remember the $40 season pass for every game on top of the full price back on my NES, SNES, Genesis, N64, PS2, etc.

AAA games where I live if you want everything as it comes out can total $120-$150 so yeah

I lurk the forums quite a bit, and never once have I seen him admit being wrong or having been corrected. Mostly the same with @Madmick so it's pretty enjoyable watching them do the same thing to one another.

Still love you, though Mick.
