Hurts to watch, Shogun was so wild back then with the stomps/soccer kicks:

Shogun would be hated these days if he was coming up and we had PRIDE rules. People would call him a punk and couldn't stand him wrecking guys with "dirty" moves. Funny how similar he and Jones were (in the ring) whey were coming up. Young, blasting guys, controversial style and beating legends.

He was a wild boy back in the day... until his father returned..

Yea, weird.

Usually they jump in super early for asian fighters, but wait until other nationalities are dead before stopping it. Ref had that wireless cam/earpiece from the truck

Shogun was a beast! And a model back then! He opened the door for amazing talent like Platty-Jo, JOUBAN, who had a dream to both walk the Calvin Klein catwalk and wreck noobs in the octagon.
HESPECT.

That fight would have been stopped 5 times by current standards

Yeah, but i think Shogun plays more by the rules, hes more of a sportsman... Jon Jones is a lil bit dirtier than him, with those eye pokes and knee strikes etc.

Shogun's "dirty" moves were all legal whereas Jones' bread and butter eyepokes are not

what dirty move did shogun used?, I don't see any eyepoke, to be honest

half of the wins for pride "legends" are against various namekawas

thta's an interesting statement, do you have examples? Because that doesn't really sound all that true. If anything, they let japanese fighters die in there. Enson Inoue nearly died against Vovchanchyn, Daijiro Matsui almost died in all his fights. PRIDE had a lot of really bad stoppages and only a handful of early ones, very rarely for japanese fighters. Again, If you have contrasting information, pls share it.

Not to mention all the gifted title shots. People who complain about UFC favoring Americans should be grateful they arent nearly as biased as pride.

Stomps and soccer kicks are a cheap way of fighting, bitch moves. Once Shogun came stateside with drug testing, he got fucking wrecked. Can't do shit without those bitch ass techniques.

They weren't dirty but no one could deny that Shogun was a wild man with his stomps and soccer kicks. He threw them far more than anyone else and I think it would turn some people off just like Jones and his oblique kicks.

I'll give you the Oyama finish. That was during the weird period in PRIDE for stoppages where sometimes they'd run long, sometimes, like Goodridge/Vovchanchyn 1, they got really jumpy.

"all the gifted title shots" were pretty much exclusively against Wanderlei and before the inception of the tournaments, and it was probably to get RINGS guys in (Kanehara and Tamura both jumped from RINGS and immediately got title fights).

I think you've stumbled on exceptions rather than a hard rule.
