Locked VENOM Movie (First Critics Reactions)

Is that confirmed or are you speculating? Because Spidey is now part of MCU and Venom is Spidey lore....so, unless I missed a memo Venom is part of MCU.

Not that I want you to care or anything but Venom and any future Spider-Man spinoff movies are part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That's one of the reasons why Spider-Man is rebooted after TASM2 because his world is now part of the MCU.

The article I read said it reportedly won't be a part of the MCU.

It would be so monumentally stupid on Sony's part if Venom and the Sinister Six won't be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Tom Holland's Spider-Man already exists in the MCU, does that mean Sony is going to cast a new Spider-Man just for their Venom movie? Or there won't be a Spider-Man at all in this Venom universe? That's why I don't believe Sony would go this route (Venom not part of MCU).

It says, "according to last year's reports, the film was “being envisioned as a franchise apart from and unrelated to the upcoming Spider-Man movie in the works with actor Tom Holland.”

As I said, Sony would be incredibly stupid if they go with this route. Marvel Studios already gave them a lifeline, a second (or third) chance at this franchise.

Calling Venom a great character is like calling Green Lantern's ring or Iron Man's armor a great character.

I mean theoretically, I suppose they could always go with Mars Morales or someone, instead of Peter Parker Spiderman, if they wanted to go that route.

They could. But it would be a huge waste of potential creating a separate Venom universe. This would be like Warner Bros. creating a Darkseid movie that is separate from the DCEU.

I mean, the Booster Gold/Blue Beetle team-up is gonna be separate from the DCEU so, WB aren't the best example to use, lol.

I do agree it would be a huge waste of potential, but if for some reason it comes down to it, that would probably be the best course of action, rather than having TWO Peter Parkers, y'know?

True but the analogy is still sound. Imagine a DCEU without Darkseid. Fans would be at an uproar over it. Casual fans are already agitated why the DC TV Universe or Berlanti-verse is not connected with the DCEU. (Though by how much the Berlanti-verse is sucking nowadays, it's a good thing it's separate)

Agreed. Instead of investing your $5,000 in Apple shares back in 1980, you spend it all in Las Vegas casino in one weekend. But hey, at least you didn't lend it all to your drug addict cousin.

I will NOT hear a word against the Berlanti-verse, lol.

Rumor: Sony's Sci-Fi Thriller LIFE Might Be a VENOM Prequel in Disguise

Life-Venom-Prequel-1-Dragonlord.jpg

Is Sony’s Columbia Pictures puling one of the biggest coups in the history of cinema?

Bloody Disgusting just unloaded all of its webbing at this new fan theory that’s too good to be true, yet is surprisingly believable.

Is Life, in theaters March 24th, a prequel to the long gestured Spider-Man spinoff, Venom?!

The first piece of evidence is pretty simple; all three films/franchises are released through Columbia Pictures, not just Sony.

The second clue is that on March 16, out of the blue, Venom was given an official release date of October 5, 2018, meaning there must be secret progress behind closed doors in order to get production underway for that targeted date.

Another bit of information is that Sony contacted Bloody Disgusting directly wanting it known that Alex Kurtzman (The Mummy) was no longer attached to direct Venom.

Here’s where we start getting into the Spider-Man tie-in…

The recent trailer for Life carries the exact same shot from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3. The villain in the 2007 sequel? Eddie Brock (Venom), played by Topher Grace!

Nearly the same footage from a 2007 movie is in a trailer for the 2017 Life. What does it mean? Could Life truly be a Venom origin story? Why not? Shared universes are all the rage now, and what a cool way to re-introduce the character, setting up a quasi-remake for next year.

FilmSchoolRejects recaps it perfectly: “See, in the comics and the movie, Venom isn’t a humanoid, it’s an alien symbiote that attaches itself to a humanoid and takes them over. Looking back on the Life trailer, said goo from Mars does appear to be some kind of adhesive symbiote capable of starting small and spreading man-sized, and the inclusion of a single crowd shot — on Earth — would seem to indicate our crew isn’t successful in destroying it.”

The site also notes that what really gives this theory legs are Reese and Wernick, the writers, who do have Marvel connections via Deadpool, and Sony, the studio behind Spider-Man 3, Life, and Venom.

With studio’s pulling the rug out from under fans being all the rage – The Woods, Split, Cloverfield – it wouldn’t be surprising in the least if this fan theory ended up being true.

LIFE Writers and Director Won't Rule Out VENOM Prequel Rumors

Both Life writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, along with director Daniel Espinosa, are reluctant to admit that Life has no ties to Venom, though the possibility of the creatives just having some fun with a fan theory remains. ComicBook.com caught up with the trio behind Life at a press event for the film and posed the question directly.

"Yes, the answer is yes!" Wernick said in a joking manner. "We are tied to Venom! We are the prequel to Venom!"

Reese was quick to point out the reasoning behind the theory. "One is that we wrote a Venom screen play, so I think people saw that connection," Reese said. "They also saw the Spider-Man 3 footage that sneaked its way into our last trailer." None of it rules out a connection. "They just announced a Venom movie release date just yesterday."

Wernick chimed back in, saying, "All of the sudden, someone's out there going, 'Bing! Lightbulb!'"

While the writers' tone was one of a joking manner, they never distinctly ruled out the possibility. In fact, when asked if they're of the belief that Life would make a great prequel to a Venom film, Reese agrees, saying, "It would, wouldn't it?"

"That's the symbiote!" Wernick says of the alien life form in Life. "Eddie Brock's on Earth. The symbiote's on Earth, finds Eddie Brock..."

They're practically already writing the connection.

"He realizes he can hide on the inside of a human," Reese said of the alien.

Whether or not Life is, in fact, the first R-rated tie-in to the Marvel Cinematic Universe which now houses Spider-Man, is left ambiguous for now. To form your own decision on whether or not there is a chance Life launched the Venom film as a secret prequel, you'll have to see Life in theaters when it releases on March 24.

This will be merged with the Venom thread after a few days.

...Interesting

Someone in some thread a few days ago made this prediction, but I'm not sure if they were joking.

Might as well try shoe horn it in why not. Would seem interesting to say the least

I really want to see Life. It looks fun.

This news makes me want to see it less, unless they just decided suddenly that it is a Venom prequel of sorts.
