I'm aware that N America is only one piece of the puzzle, but you offered up Latin America and Europe as counter examples... I'm not sure if you're serious there. The Chrisitan influence in those places, until this very day is downright pervasive. It is everywhere. It is weakening, without doubt, but my point remains. Regardless of that, the US has been driving the bus for a while now.

And I'll just say your last post is outright incorrect. 1 I never said Christianity was the main impetus for modernity. I've said it is massively influential. But I categorically disagree that science is the impetus.

War, the desire to wage MASSIVE wars for gain at moments notice, and the desire to monetize things are the two main drivers of the world coming into modernity. Science is a means. Not a cause or reason.

Latin America is a location where syncretism dominates - not Christianity. Sure, Jesuit schools educate the upper class, but popular culture that is nurtured by syncretic religions has more influence in society. Europe is primarily an atheist space, lets just get that out of the way now. To say that Europe is Christian is straight up laughable.

What last post? I've been discussing this topic with you and another poster so try to be clear. Scientific thought has ruled elites for the past 200 years, bud. Ever heard of positivism (the hotbed of the social sciences), liberalism, and social darwinism? Those are the ruling ideologies of modernity - not Christianity. Those three scientific ideologies, more than anything else, have nurtured warfare. You can disagree with me all you want, but you remain incorrect.

They apparently do the same in China.

And Brazil(beautiful headkick ko):

They do the same in most places of the world, specially when authorities are corrupt and inefficient and justice is weak.

The sad part is when innocents get caught.

Christianity was used for the genocide of the REAL Americans, it was used to justify slavery (to be fair, one of the greatest Americans who ever lived John Brown used Christianity to justify the the Harper Ferry Raid), it was used to justify segregation and the fight against interracial marriages. Radical Islam may affect our lives on a small basis, but Christianity affects legislature, which has far more of an impact.

How can you outright blame Christianity when many Christians were opposed to genocide, slavery and segregation? There were many faithful Christian leaders and the people who followed them who stood against injustice throughout history like William Wilburforce, Martin Luther King Jr., Frederick Douglass, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Thomas Merton, Dorothy Day and Simone Weil.

It is unreasonable to only look only at a single side of Christianity and then falsely claim it is responsible for the evils in the world. Christianity has also done a lot of good in the world and a lot of that good has resulted in the things we take for granted today.

Man, the morality police will always find new tricks up their sleeves.

Russia never was a white country. Or part of the West. For centuries white people have fought the Uralian hordes to make sure they don't make it to the west.
Also a bit disrespectful towards all the young Russians that died fighting the only real white race.

Anyone care to explain why this dumb racist nazi's comments are tolerated on here ?

It's amazing how people forget about all of the good that Christianity is responsible for when they are looking to tear it down.

Especially the importance of Brown and Black Christians who proudly proclaim their faith and inspiration.

That shit always gets swept under the rug.

As per wiki;

Started from the fall of the Roman empire to about 1300 ad.

Thanks for clarifying.

To say there was no progess incorrect though. You may want to be more specific.

I see religion as a tool. In the right hands, a hammer can build a beautiful house, but in the wrong hands, it can be used to bash someone's head in.

Modern history began 300 years ago. I'm a historian and History is divided into various epochs for the sake of order and clarity.

Historian?

For real though?

Where did you get your degree (s) from?

Where?

Are you published?

I'm going to assume your being honest, because, hey what the hell, it's the webz, but damn, I didn't expect this based on your posts that I've read.

I've got a Masters degree in History and I specialize in Modern European and Interamerican Intellectual History. And no I haven't tried publishing anything. Publishing wasn't a priority for me while in school, because I was working as a TA/RA and I needed to get shit done.

It's always hard to trust what if anything that Putin is saying he believes what so ever. But his strategies tend to be attack with facts and realities, this strengthens his position against any counter he may face. He's correct on the issue. But none anywhere really see Russian as true allies, i don't think he can be the one to lead what he's preaching.

And hes India has 1.2 billion or whatever people, but they also have more divisions than most with hindis muslims tamils and many other small minorities.

I can't even wrap my head around how you are trying to dismiss the influence of Christianity on Latin America.

I mean seriously. I admitted the influence is waning, but the formative influence of Christianity on Latin America is outsized in every regard. That influence on the very fabric of society doesn't go away overnight.

The same goes for Europe.

These chunks of earth are just removing themselves from that influence within the past few generations.

And again, just saying "science" is such a poor argument. The desire for control, the desire to wage warfare, the desire to make money. Those are the things that drive society and have for a very long time. Look at how much of our software and tech comes from

Well God bless you child.

I'm sure you'll make a fine living in academia.

I'm not dismissing it. Fact of the matter is that syncretic religions (santeria, candomble, etc) have more societal influence while Christianity has more disciplinary and political power.

What facilitates control, warfare, and making money? Just desire? No. Knowledge does. Political Science, Law, Medicine, Chemistry, Military Science, International Relations, Economics, Sociology, etc. These are the knowledges that facilitate dominance. It's ridiculous to even argue against it.
