Eisenhower got us involved in Vietnam. Period. He laid out the domino effect theory that guided US policy throughout the entire Cold War. He backed the French, then the anti-communist government and promised them our aid. He was also very specific in his message to Kennedy about this topic when he left office. I really don't think there is any evidence to suggest that Eisenhower wouldn't have escalated the thing himself. I believe he would have and he would have probably done a better job at it to boot.

RP, I usually agree with your posts but you're way off here.

JFK started Vietnam and that's all there is to it. Yeah, Eisenhower laid out the rationale behind it, but if we're going by that, every single president in US history is guilty of it. Every president has been under the belief that the US ought to be the ruler of the world and as such has to support countries who obey and crush those who don't.

Vietnam was the greatest post-WWII crime and it was started by liberal darling Kennedy. He gave the orders. No one put a gun to his head. A retired Eisenhower wasn't going to come and kick his ass if he didn't do what he suggested.

This is the difference between liberal politicians and liberal/radical activists and popular organizations. Liberal politicians like JFK and LBJ have often engaged in tremendous crimes and been as hawkish as the right wingers.

Liberal movements have opposed wars of aggression and empire. And they've been on the right side of history.
