In the current issue of Wrestling Observer Newsletter Dave Meltzer says the XFL is expected to end up signing a deal with NBC while Dick Ebersols sons new AAFL will be with CBS
Kinda surprising since Ebersol was a king at NBC for a long time, figured thats where they'd stay

The dueling between Ebersol and McMahon is really interesting.

Seems like a HUGE advantage for Ebersol to start a year earlier, though.

Maybe not. The AAF is probably moving a little too fast and the final product might show it.

Heres exactly what Meltzer said

"For those expecting an XFL monumental failure, the circumstances with crazy
numbers for sports properties change the game completely. Just for an example,
Combate Americas, an MMA group that most MMA fans don’t even follow, got more
than a 500 percent streaming per show increase by moving to DAZN and while they
aren’t getting anywhere close to what UFC and Bellator deals are from ESPN+ and
DAZN, it is a significant deal. ESPN+ is talking to PFL, which on paper looked
to be the biggest financial disaster in the world, and may still be even with
that deal but the point is content providers are looking for almost any MMA or
fighting sport right now. Terry Lefton of Sports Business Journal spoke to Mark
Lazarus, the chairman of NBC Broadcasting and Sports and he outright said they
would sign up either the AAFL (Charlie Ebersol’s new league which already has a
deal with CBS Sports Network and CBS) or the XFL, which by process of
elimination tells you they are interested in the XFL. “I suspect we will be in
business with one of them. We have windows on both cable and broadcast, and we
have interesting ties to both. He (Vince McMahon) has credibility in sports and
entertainment, and a lot of money. The other league has interesting technology
tied to it and they’ll be the first mover (AAFL starts this spring while
McMahon’s league is looking at starting in the Spring of 2020). There are issues
around each and they both have connections back to us. They’d both very much
like to have a second partner...If the football is real, it’s got a chance. We
have a football checklist and a deal checklist: risk versus reward
mid-term/long-term. Short-term is immaterial in the startup phase.” A key is
also with all these streaming platforms going after live sports and overpaying,
the idea of getting pro football, the most popular sport in the country, the
timing of starting up looks good. The thing is, there will come a time when
these overpaying deals (if they are) will come to roost, but I think that is
probably more than a year down the line, so Vince will start up within that
window. Again, long-term, they will have to get a following once the streaming
content prices make economic sense, but that could be a long time from now. But
the economics for the XFL are so completely different from 2001 it isn’t funny"

Streaming apps do change the game a little, but I still think it is important to establish teams in big markets with lots of money to spend. It's also significant if he gets a TV deal with NBC again, but if they sink in the ratings on a legacy channel like NBC it could be really bad (2001 all over again). I am hoping Vince can thread the needle this time.

Holy shit @fonzob1 we might have a winning football team in DC!!!!!!!!

Ha Ha! Yeah, I posted in the other thread.

Have you ever been to Audi Field? It is an awesome stadium. My issue with it though is that tailgating is not allowed.

What kind of gay shit is that. My ass gets turnt as everything Redskins tailgate lmao

Yeah. The parking is in a parking garage, and you obviously can't tailgate in a parking garage (fire hazard). It is prohibited at both Audi Field and Nationals Stadium. That is why I was hoping they would put the team at RFK, even though it is a dump. They could have invested in renovating the place, and that is the perfect spot for football. Oh, well.

Oh look

Another football team in LA people won't watch

Fantastic
LA is the second largest media market in the country. A sports league (not called the NFL) will have to lay roots there to land a decent TV contract and have any chance of making money in the future.

Didn’t they loses enough money last time? Some people just won’t learn

Wow, great pics. LA already has 2 new teams, both are doing well record-wise and they still have been struggling for fans. NY has 2 teams also, and good luck getting cowboys fans loyalty in Dallas.
Probably 90% of our country's wealth is in the NFL markets. The NFL isn't playing in the Spring, so they are obviously banking on growing a spring football niche.

They can try but SoCal fans are fickle and fair weather as hell, it’d take a miracle. Maybe some of the other cities they have a better chance. Spring seems like a good time, but in reality, it puts them up against the end of the nba season/playoffs, ncaa March madness and the beginning of the baseball season... pretty stiff competition in the sports world.

You never know but seems like a serious loser.

All 8 XFL team locations have been leaked ahead of the official announcement on Wednesday...

Dallas
Houston
Los Angeles
New York
St. Louis
Seattle
Tampa Bay
Washington, DC

Lol this is so going to fail

Dallas - Cowboys City. XFL won't catch on
Houston - Might be OK there.
LA - Saturated sports market. 10 pro teams plus USC and UCLA already based there. Rams and Chargers are struggling with their fans support
NY - Another saturated sport market. 11 pro teams already based there
St. Louis - Great choice
Seattle - Seahawks City. XFL won't catch on
Tampa Bay - Meh
Washington DC - Decent selection

Why not choose cities that are starved for professional sports teams? San Antonio, Columbus, San Diego, Portland, Orlando. Replace Dallas, LA, NYC, Seattle and Tampa Bay with these 4 and here is what you have:

Houston
San Antonio
St. Louis
Portland
Orlando
Washington DC
Columbus
San Diego
