I read where Mad Mick and others said that raw egg proteins are not absorbed by the body as efficiently as cooked eggs. This is earth shattering to me. I always figured that heat denatures proteins and so I was really helping myself by throwing six raw eggs in a shake. Can one of you guys direct me to some literature on the subject? If it's in the FAQ, sorry, just tell me and i'll go there.

I think what MM said is true, but the difference is minimal so there's no need to worry. Here's a couple of posts from another thread on the subject:

If you search through some of the older threads on raw eggs you'll find studies cited stating that cooking egg whites are more beneficial than eating them raw because biotin issues. This isn't a problem unless you're consuming excessive amounts. Egg yolks also contain a lot of biotin, so, when you eat the whole egg you replace the biotin any way.

Compare the nutrient differences between raw and cooked eggs here
Compare "Egg, whole, raw, fresh" and "Egg, whole, cooked, hard-boiled"

I also found this link through google which sounds reasonable enough to me.

The whole thing just seems like a non-issue to me.

Valgarv pretty much sums it up nicely; raw eggs aren't the risk people make them out to be, and cook vs raw is like splitting hairs when it comes to the bioavailability of the actual protein involved.

There has been some limited research into lipid peroxidization of the yolk when cooked and it's effect as a free radical, but at this point, I wouldn't sweat it.

I regularly consume raw egg shakes. I wash the shell then blend gently.

Just noticed this... I really love the Turtle recipe from the PN contest, if I wasn't so lazy I'd make that twice a day. Good thread.

MINT HOT CHOCOLATE WOOHOO. Yes folks, just in time for the colder months, byukid brings you his first, exclusive protein shake and it's a killer hot chocolate with a hint of mint that will warm your heart and soul.

First you heat up 8-10 oz of milk whatever your like,I suggest skim because it's somewhat easier to mix than whole, but if you've had better luck with any of them choose your preference. Get it nice and hot.
Second, you gotta put in your favorite kind of cocoa mix at half of what thy recommend- half a scoop or half a packet, whichever. Half a squirt if you're twelve years old and use that hershey's that comes in a bottle.
Third, you mix that up real good and scoop a half serving of Optimum Nutrition Mint Chocolate whey in. Make sure it's nice and mixed, avoid clumping at all costs.
Pour into a cup or shaker if it's not already and enjoy!

I don't know if it's necessary, but it made me feel better about drinking hot chocolate. And it's delicious.
