UFC contracts restrict fighters from competing in other combat sports like boxing. He can retire, but he still couldn't box. Contract is frozen upon retirement, so it doesn't eliminate the restrictions, only honoring the contract does.

Well, one could say it's the fault of current law allowing predatory contracts and the UFC for taking advantage. McGregor has a talent, a talent that many would agree the world should see but as an aspiring icon hoping to prove his legend on the level of Muhammed Ali, he has no leverage in contract negotiations. McGregor can't say I want autonomy outsde MMA, I guess he can but it would never be granted. My point was that there are contractual ties between athletes and the company that they fight for, as well as the our contractual agreements for the company That I work for. It's not a given that if they are worth more they will get paid more. Conor is at the highest echelon now. But negotiation is still a process that in athletic sports is more prominent than most other jobs.
