At this point with the largest and most successful fighting promotion, how are these huge fight cards falling apart? I get it that you can't monitor fighters 24/7 or force them to live in a bubble a week before the fight (despite that might actually helping), but so many cards are failing from unforeseen circumstances that could be remedied by having other fighters on call. UFC should have 2 or 3 groups of fighters training and be paid to, just in case a fight falls through like the Holloway fight. Or if Tony gets injured or Khabib eats more tiramisu, there is at least a decent fight to fill the slot.

The sport is fighting I understand fighters get injuries but the UFC is supposed to be a fight entertainment business and the UFC not having good fighters on call ready to fill in for or replace fighters that are removed from a card is poor management.

I think they should have a fighter to replace each fight on a a main card prepared to make weight.

for example, the ufc should have paid Stephens/edgar/zombie (whoever) to weigh in on the day of the holloway vs Ortega fight. If the fight falls through, You have a replacement. If not, The fighter just gets some show money for staying in camp in shape.

This is a sport where cutting weight is a process. You simply can't make an elite fighter cut weight on a few days notice.

How many times does this have to happen before something is done? There should be a written policy in place at this point.

For every UFC main event and/or title fight, there should be a highly ranked fighter of the same weight class fighting on the same card. If someone falls out from the main event, that person moves up to the main event. Both guys in the main event should be made aware and you can even promote the other guy as an alternate. There would be no extra cost involved other than perhaps paying both fighters a little extra money for the inconvenience and opponent change.

Wouldn't this really help the UFC instead of losing title fights and main events and making it look second rate? Imagine if Edgar and Stephens were fighting on the same card. You lose a fight but you keep your title fight. It just makes sense. The guy is already training and already cutting weight. No last minute issues to deal with.

Everyone MUST wear the vest, for the final 2 weeks, that Lorenzo bought for Jose Aldo.

This has been said for years. Dana even said they would start having backups. It's not happening. They are far too cheap. They would rather let cards fall apart than pay someone to be on standby.

Also doesn't help that Ortega refuses to fight on short notice.

Pay one fighter per weight class that will be on the card as an alternate. There are plenty of hungry fighters that would love the opportunity to fill in and who probably could really use some money. doesn't have to be some top prospect, just someone who's on the radar. This gives you the leeway to have them fill in for the guy who's off the card or you can shuffle the card to make more compelling matches and not cancel anyone. Let's say there are 6 weight classes represented on a card and you pay one person 5K per class to stay in shape. 30k per card as insurance doesn't seem unreasonable.
