It seems as if they are trying to stack UFC 223 in April. They seem to be banking on Khabib being that next breakout star. The question is what if he isn’t? Or what if he loses? Tony isn’t marketable in the least bit and that Russia show goes out the window.

ANY fighter who puts on consistent, entertaining scraps is marketable. It's up to the UFC to give him the push.

He is a cringe talker, but dude fights like a wild man and does crazy shit in almost every fight that is entertaining as hell.

You pretty much covered the whole thing. There’s not much to add, imo.

The UFC has been putting all their eggs in one basket the last cpl years. Usually, in the wrong basket.

    That said...

This. There is a mauling in the forecast everytime he fights.

Banking on a guy that's hurt frequently or doesn't even show up to get on the scale seems like a real bad idea.

A non stop grappler will never be a star.

He hasn't even had a main event yet. No 5 round fight.

He is for the hardcore fans.

They said same things about Max they say about Tony. Cringe ugly etc. Max now is more popular as he keeps winning. Everyone likes a winner.

UFC is too dumb to realize pushing popular fighters out of the gate is a mistake because they can't rig fights like WWE rather than let them grow organically through wins and then they keep winning and eventually generate high PPV. Organic stars are like Silva, Jones, GSP. Manufactured champions they can't let fight like Conor.

The UFC needs to diversify its portfolio.

he had the opportunity to headline against Tony more than once. Its quite hard to throw someone like Khabib in a main event slot when he pulls out often. Its ridiculous to say that he hasnt main evented because he is a nonstop grappler when he is one of the biggest stars in the sport already. He has a MASSIVE following

I don't think so. Khabib himself has said he wants to be retired by age 30 or 31, so there's not much long term gain you can get out of Khabib at this point. I think they're counting on him beating Tony so that they can promote him vs Conor in a big fight in Russia and use that to help break into the Russian market, but that's it.

An Irish friend of mine named Ken use to fight UFC, he said he hopes to God Tony comes ready, because if he doesn't, Khabib is going to beat him into the living death.

Then he kicked my dining room chair.

Hughes was big plus Khabib has Russia behind him and Muslims which is like 1.7 billion. I think he can be huge if he fights. Needs to fight like 2 times a year at least

They can't turn stars into winners - instead they need to take the winners and push them to stardom.

As long as he keeps mauling people the same way he does now, I think he'll grow to become a fan favourite. His trash talk is hilarious and his fights are entertaining. The dude just needs to fight more often to get more exposure.
