If Woodley have won this 48-47, nobody would have said that Stephen got robbed or deserved a draw probably

I'll have to watch that. I haven't scored it for myself yet because I rarely pay much attention to scoring while watching live. I'd have given it to Woodley under Pride scoring.

They usually post a free fight for both fighters, whose fight is this supposed to be? or this one will cover both of them?

Wonderboy won that fight.. not necessarily in damage, but he won 3 rounds. Unless you give T-Wood a 10-8 , then it's a draw. I don't see how Tyron could have won that fight? He took 3 rounds off.

To be fair, the justification for Pride scoring is " because it's more like a real fight " but in a real fight if you beat the shit out of someone for 4 rounds aka 20 minutes and they're wearing all the damage, but going into that 5th round or past the 20 minute market you're gassed and the other guy is pulling away with it ( like Thompson was) than it's more than likely, if it were a real fight the man with the most left at the end of the fight would have won, not the one who sustained the most damage.

Also damage ( although, undoubtedly in this case Stephen Thompson did sustain more damage ) people bring up aesthetics like " look at his face and look at mine " or " he's bleeding " which is nonsense, I mean lacerations are in the grand scheme of things in a "real fight" trivial, even in an MMA fight trivial compared to who's landing the cleaner more impacting blows. Damage is hard to score, when Ali Bagautinov took John Lineker down...he broke 2 of Lineker's ribs...broken, bruised and cracked ribs are very common in a fight and are a more significant representation of damage than a cut on the cheek, but they are not visible and often times go unnoticed. Just one of many examples. Swelling, bruising and bleeding aren't significant kinds of damage in and of themselves.

I scored this fight a draw, I gave Thompson 2,3 and 5. I gave Woodley 1 and 4, 4 was definitely a 10-8, 1 was possibly a 10-8, but under the scoring criteria of that time more than likely a 10-9. Which adds up to a draw. I wanted the rematch at the end of the fight, I love Maia but honestly Woodley went 2-1 in his last 3 fights with his biggest win a split decision over a sick Gastelum then waited 18 months for his title shot. Stephen Thompson won 7 straight, knocking out Robert Whittaker and Johny Hendricks, beating Rory MacDonald ( who is the last defeat on Both Woodley and Maia's record) to get his title shot. I do kind of feel like Stephen Thompson deserves this rematch. ( although Maia has arguably put together one of the most impressive Welterweight runs ever currently ). I think part of my preference to the Thompson vs Woodley rematch is, I don't honestly see how Maia beats Woodley which is my biases and not any kind of intelligent argument.

They only gave that fight as a draw because of all the celebs who had no clue about MMA in the crowd. They loved him getting out of that hold.

What's that mean? a knockdown is automatic 10-8?

and 'new rules' weren't in place for that fight i'm assuming.

48-47? Round 4 was clearly 10-8. And like someone else said, with the new rules round 1 is a 10-8. Not sure I agree with rounds 1 and 4 being scored the same though.

Woodley broke his foot less than 30 seconds into that fight.

People like to NOT acknowledge that.

That's why he was out for 18 months.

Doesn't really change the point at hand, he went 2-1 with his best win being a split decision vs a sick Gastelum who killed himself cutting weight in a fight most people thought Woodley lost ( the other was Condit blowing out his knee when getting taken down). He then sat out for 18 months crying for a title shot he didn't really earn. He's a hypocrite.

Also there are many cases where fighters break their foot in a fight and still perform optimally, or don't even realize it until after the fact.

The point was that you were being selective with your inclusion of the variables that contributed to the performances in that fight.

Something that folks often due when they want to criticize Woodley for that specific fight.
