Deadline has learned of another big name that has quietly joined Twin Peaks, David Lynch’s upcoming new installment of his groundbreaking 1990 supernatural mystery series. Deadline is reporting Ashley Judd will be in the new season, slated for premiere on Showtime in early 2017.

Additionally, in addition to Lynch reprising his role from the original series as Gordon Cole and fellow co-creator/executive producer Mark Frost reportedly doing a cameo, the site hears Frost’s dad, 90-year-old actor Warren Frost, who co-starred as Dr. Will Hayward on the ABC series, would return for a cameo.

New Twin Peaks cast additions also include Amanda Seyfried, Naomi Watts, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Laura Dern, Robert Knepper, James Belushi, Tom Sizemore, Balthazar Getty, Grant Goodeve, Larry Clarke and Caleb Landry Jones.

On the returning cast members front, star Kyle MacLachlan is reportedly being joined by Sheryl Lee, Sherilyn Fenn, Mädchen Amick, Michael Horse, Dana Ashbrook and Miguel Ferrer, Ray Wise, Grace Zabriskie, Peggy Lipton and Everett McGill, among others.

Naomi Watts and Tom Sizemore Join TWIN PEAKS Revival

Deadline has learned that Naomi Watts and Tom Sizemore are the latest big name to join David Lynch’s upcoming new installment of his groundbreaking 1990 supernatural mystery series Twin Peaks.

Additionally, Lynch, who is directing the new Twin Peaks installment from a script he co-wrote with fellow Twin Peaks co-creator Mark Frost, is rumored to be reprising his recurring role from the original series as FBI Regional Bureau Chief Gordon Cole.

It was reported back in October that Lynch had reached out to Watts, who got her break in his Mulholland Drive. She and Sizemore are joining other big-name new Twin Peaks additions including Laura Dern, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Amanda Seyfried.

Star Kyle MacLachlan is the only cast member confirmed for the new Twin Peaks season, set to premiere in early 2017. Other original cast members said to be back include Sherilyn Fenn, Miguel Ferrer and Sheryl Lee.

Sherilyn Fenn to Return for Showtime's TWIN PEAKS Revival

Sherilyn-Fenn-Twin-Peaks-010816-Dragonlord.jpg

Great news for Twin Peaks fans — Deadline has learned that one of the most popular characters in the original series, the troubled femme fatale Audrey Horne, will return in the new season for Showtime. Fenn has signed on to reprise the role that’s expected to have a major presence in the new installment.

It came down to the wire with Fenn as Twin Peaks has been filming for awhile. Probably complicating things was the fact that Fenn has been filming a heavily recurring role on the new season of Showtime’s Shameless. She has a longstanding relationship with Showtime, having also done a major arc on Ray Donovan.

Star Kyle MacLachlan is the only cast member confirmed for the new Twin Peaks season. Fenn is believed to be the highest-profile co-star from the ABC series to join him in the revival.

Miguel Ferrer is said to be reprising his role as FBI Agent Albert Rosenfield from the original series, that Sheryl Lee was on the set as Laura Palmer, David Patrick Kelly is also said to be reprising his role as Jerry Horne, and Richard Beymer is rumored to be resurrecting his character of Jerry’s brother and Audrey’s father Ben.

Lynch is directing the new Twin Peaks installment from a script he co-wrote with fellow Twin Peaks co-creator Mark Frost.

TWIN PEAKS Revival Series Premiere Pushed Back to 2017; New Teaser Trailer

Twin-Peaks-2017-110315-Dragonlord.jpg

After weeks of rumors, Showtime has officially rescheduled its forthcoming revival of Twin Peaks, originally scheduled for 2016, to 2017, TVLine has confirmed.

The 2016 date had a special significace to fans of the series, as it would have markes 25 years since the end of Twin Peaks's second season. An in-story tease of "25 years later" had appeared onscreen during Twin Peaks, and many assumed that co-creators David Lynch and Mark Frost had timed the series' return to coincide with that.

Earlier this year, Showtime chief David Nevins had admitted the series might run into 2017 during an appearance at the Television Critics Association. Just prior to that appearance, fans had noticed that the "2016" on Showtime's official website for the series had changed to 2017. Today, confirmation of the new came from CBS Corporation's Leslie Moonves.

The cause is said to be a combination of an expanded episode order (reportedly between 12 and 18 new episodes will be made, versus an initial order of 9) as well as protracted contract negotiations with Lynch, which have since been completed. Lynch and Frost wrote all of the new episodes, and Lynch will direct them.

Jennifer Jason Leigh Joins TWIN PEAKS; Naomi Watts Circling

Jennifer-Jason-Leigh-Twin-Peaks-Dragonlord.jpg

Twin Peaks just keeps getting more crowded. Jennifer Jason Leigh will appear in Showtime's David Lynch revival, along with returning stars Kyle MacLachlan and Sheryl Lee, and new stars Balthazar Getty, Amanda Seyfried, Peter Sarsgaard, and Robert Knepper. In addition, there's word Lynch wants to bring on Mulholland Drive star Naomi Watts.

Deadline got the scoop on the Twin Peaks Jennifer Jason Leigh news. Showtime hasn't publicly announced Leigh's casting, but her involvement was unofficially revealed by paparazzi photos. The snapshots seem to show her filming a nighttime scene with MacLachlan in the Mojave desert. Lee was also spotted on set.

Lynch is directing the entire new season of Twin Peaks, which will come in somewhere between ten and 18 episodes. He also wrote the script, with original Twin Peaks co-creator Mark Frost. Details on the Twin Peaks limited series, including basic plot info, remain shrouded in mystery. Twin Peaks is likely to air sometime in 2016, which marks the 25th anniversary of the Season 2 finale.

Leigh was seen earlier this year in the indies Welcome to Me and Alex of Venice. Coming out next from her are Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight (in which she already looks like the scene-stealer in a cast full of larger-than-life performances) and Charlie Kaufman's Anomalisa.

Robert Knepper Joins the Cast of TWIN PEAKS Revival Series

Robert-Knepper-Twin-Peaks-093015-Dragonlord.jpg

Deadline reports that Robert Knepper (Prison Break, Heroes) has joined the cast of David Lynch's upcoming new installment of his groundbreaking 1990 mystery series. The project has been shrouded with secrecy, so no one is commenting but Deadline hears Knepper has been tapped for a recurring role on the new season for Showtime alongside fellow new addition Amanda Seyfried.

The only actor officially confirmed for the new Twin Peaks is original star Kyle MacLachlan who is set to reprise his role as Dale Cooper. Many other fan favorite characters from the ABC run of the series are expected to return. "You should be optimistic that the people you want to be there will be there, in addition to some surprises," Showtime president David Nevins said last month. That reportedly included Catherine Coulson, who played the memorable Log Lady, though it is unclear whether she had been able to film any new footage. Coulson died of cancer earlier this week.

Deadline hears among those coming back is David Patrick Kelly, reprising his role as Jerry Home. Richard Beymer had been rumored to also resurrect his character of Jerry's brother Benjamin. Twin Peaks has been in production for about two weeks, with Lynch directing. He is expected to shoot the series continuously as a movie, and later cut it into episodes. The site reports that's how the new installment was written by Lynch and Frost, as one long script.

Amanda Seyfried Joins the Cast of TWIN PEAKS Revival Series

Amanda-Seyfried-Twin-Peaks-091915-Dragonlord.jpg

TVLine reports that Amanda Seyfried has landed a "major role" on the David Lynch and Mark Frost's Twin Peaks revival. This is Twin Peaks we're talking about, remember, so details on Seyfried's character are being kept secret. But she'll allegedly be playing a "pivotal new character," one who appears in multiple episodes over the course of the season.

TVLine (among others) is wildly speculating that Seyfried may play the daughter of Coop and his late-in-the-show love interest Annie, played by Heather Graham, who, like Seyfried, is also a woman with blonde hair and facial features. Following that line of logic, Seyfried might also play someone related to the similarly blonde-and-attractive characters Laura, Norma, Lucy, or Shelly, who appeared blonde in certain lights, though really was more of a redhead.

Whatever the role may be, it marks something of a return to form for Seyfried, who had early turns on the profoundly Lynchian All My Children and As The World Turns and hasn't graced the small screen since Big Love ended in 2011. Seems even Seyfried isn't immune to a damn fine cup of coffee. Twin Peaks will premiere on Showtime in 2016.

TWIN PEAKS Revival Announced to Start Filming in September

In what's being described as a shoot akin to "one long movie," Twin Peaks will start filming its next season/revival in September, Showtime announced today at the Television Critics Association. Network executives balked at providing the press with too many details -- even as it pertains to the relatively simple question of how many episodes there will be.

Showtime boss David Nevins promised that "the people that you want will be there" and said that the episode count will be more than the originally-planned nine but is now "open-ended," according to Welcome to Twin Peaks.

The series, originally scheduled for 2016 and then quietly moved back to 2017 on promotional materials, doesn't yet have a film launch date. Nivens told reporters that he still hopes they can make 2016, but that he wants the series as badly as fans do. The implication seemed to be that because of that connection, he'd rather shoot for 2016 and plan for 2017 than continue to promise 2016 and under-deliver.

David Lynch Returns to TWIN PEAKS, Will Direct All Episodes

2cy1bep.jpg

How's this for a way to start the weekend: Showtime's Twin Peaks revival is all systems go. Following a squabble with Showtime, David Lynch announced Friday via Twitter that he has resolved his salary and budgetary standoff with the premium cable network.

"Dear Twitter Friends, the rumors are not what they seem ..... It is !!! Happening again. #TwinPeaks returns on @SHO_Network," he wrote. Not only is the stalemate over, but Showtime has committed to producing more than the nine episodes originally ordered.

"This damn fine cup of coffee from Mark and David tastes more delicious than ever," Showtime president David Nevins said in a statement Friday confirming the news. "Totally worth the extra brewing time and the cup is even bigger than we expected. David will direct the whole thing which will total more than the originally announced nine hours. Preproduction starts now!!”

David Lynch Exits TWIN PEAKS Miniseries, Show Will Still Go On

David-Lynch-Twin-Peaks-040515-Dragonlord.jpg

Co-creator David Lynch has new information regarding the rumored cancellation of Twin Peaks's planned third season at Showtime -- and it's not the good news fans had hoped for...but not exactly a cancellation, either. Lynch posted in his Facebook page:

"Dear Facebook Friends, Showtime did not pull the plug on Twin Peaks. After 1 year and 4 months of negotiations, I left because not enough money was offered to do the script the way I felt it needed to be done. This weekend I started to call actors to let them know I would not be directing. Twin Peaks may still be very much alive at Showtime. I love the world of Twin Peaks and wish things could have worked out differently."

Many had expected this news, since Lynch made cryptic remarks in mid-March that he was still working on the contracts, while Showtime seemed to be staying the course. Back in mid-March, co-creator David Lynch said that they were still working out a deal with Showtime and production had not started yet. Lynch has reportedly turned in all of the scripts already and was expected to direct a nine-episode miniseries set in the world of the eccentric logging town he introduced to television 25 years ago.

Kyle MacLachlan Returns as Agent Cooper in New TWIN PEAKS

Kyle-MacLachlan-Twin-Peaks-011215-Dragonlord.jpg

Press Release: Kyle MacLachlan will reprise his role as FBI Agent Dale Cooper when the critically-acclaimed, ground breaking television phenomenon Twin Peaks returns as a new limited series on Showtime. Series creators and executive producers David Lynch and Mark Frost are on board to write and produce all nine episodes of the limited series. David Lynch will direct every episode. Twin Peaks will go into production in 2015 to air on the network in 2016, marking the 25th anniversary of when the program last aired.

Set in the present day, Twin Peaks will continue the lore of the original series, providing long-awaited answers for the series' passionate fan base. For viewers hoping to reminisce or for those discovering the series for the first time, Showtime will re-air the first two seasons of Twin Peaks, in advance of the new episodes going on air in 2016.

Widely considered one of the most groundbreaking and influential broadcast series of all time, Twin Peaks followed the inhabitants of a quaint northwestern town who were stunned after their homecoming queen Laura Palmer is shockingly murdered. The town's sheriff welcomed the help of FBI agent Dale Cooper, who came to town to investigate the case. As Cooper conducted his search for Laura's killer, the town's secrets were gradually exposed. The mystery that ensued set off an eerie chain of events that plunged the inhabitants of Twin Peaks into a darker examination of their very existence. Twenty-five years later, the story continues...

TWIN PEAKS Co-Creator Mark Frost Talks About the Miniseries

Twin-Peaks-MacLachlan-100714-Dragonlord.jpg

Mark Frost: "David [Lynch] and I stayed in touch and remained closed friends throughout all these years. It was about three years ago this summer we were having lunch at [famed Hollywood eatery] Musso & Frank, where we often used to go. And we were just kicking stuff around and we started getting some ideas in our heads about Twin Peaks. Suddenly, it felt like a place we wanted to visit again. And that was the kickoff."

"We didn't go to anybody else. Showtime was the first and only [network] we spoke to about this. There was a nice sense of continuity there, because Gary Levine, who's the right-hand man to [Showtime president] David Nevins, was our [creative] representative on the show when we were on ABC."

"It is not a remake. The story continues. The seeds of where we go were planted where we've been. Not really [a season 3], but just because my brain doesn't work that way. I've always said that Twin Peaks to me was like a novel we filmed every page of. So this is more like we found another volume of the saga, and now we want to bring that to life too."

"Those who want to see old faces, and those would like to see new faces, none of them will be disappointed. It's far too early to talk specifics about people. We're not at that stage in the process. I think there will be a lot of things that people have wanted to know over the years that if they pay close attention, they are going to be satisfied."

[On learning from past mistakes] "I think what we've learned is you've gotta have a very strong central path through the woods. It's fine to have tributaries and streams, and little byways, but ultimately, that path through the woods has to be very dark, clear and dangerous. That's the path we're going to keep to. There'll be, I hope, a healthy percentage of delightful sidelines or paths off to the side, but there aren't any shortcuts. You've gotta follow that main path."

[On the season 2 cliffhanger finale] "At the time, we were doing whatever we could to get ABC to say yes to a third season. That was very much part of our thinking. It turned out to be a pretty good stopping place, if it had never gone anywhere else, it had at least had an exclamation point at the end of it. Now we have a chance to write the next sentence."

New TWIN PEAKS Limited Series in 2016; David Lynch to Direct

Twin-Peaks-Title-100614-Dragonlord.jpg

Twin Peaks is coming back. Showtime is reviving the cult favorite from David Lynch and Mark Frost as a nine-episode limited series for a 2016 premiere, the premium network announced Monday. Lynch and Frost will pen all episodes, with Lynch directing. Production is expected to begin in 2015. It is unclear whether any original castmembers would appear. According to the brief promo, the new iteration will pick up 25 years after the original run wrapped up.

"What more can I say - Twin Peaks with David Lynch and Mark Frost on Showtime in 2016!" said David Nevins, president of Showtime Networks. "To quote Agent Cooper, 'I have no idea where this will lead us, but I have a definite feeling it will be a place both wonderful and strange.'" Lynch and Frost added in a joint statement: "The mysterious and special world of Twin Peaks is pulling us back. We're very excited. May the forest be with you."

The original Twin Peaks launched on April 8, 1990, on ABC and followed a police investigation of the murder of homecoming queen Laura Palmer. It was one of the top-rated programs of 1990, earning a renewal before it ended its run on June 10, 1991. Even through its short TV run, Twin Peaks has continued to resonate in popular culture. Kyle MacLachlan, Madchen Amick, Lara Flynn Boyle, Sherilyn Fenn, and Peggy Lipton were among the stars in the original series.

I wonder if they will bring in Angelo Badalamenti and Julee Cruise.
The atmosphere of the show was fun.

Awesome! Hope they have the same music...

I loved this show when it first aired. I was only 12 and none of my friends watched it, but it was so crazy and creepy. Bob gave me nightmares for years. Haven't watched it since I grew up but I may do it soon just to see if it stands the test of time.

Can't wait for the new series too. Showtime is the perfect channel to air this.
