Trump wants to privatize USPS

Well the 3 billion loss was a good year for them, the previous was near 6. And if the USPS is promising to increase digital presences, that is also going to come with job reduction.

I mean, steam engine operator and horse and buggy driver were good jobs too, but eventually you have to cut out dead waste -- or at least stop its bleeding.

and sure, start a separate thread for military spending if you want .. this is about USPS and how to stop its bleeding.

They're not meant to turn a profit. Hey actually help businesses and other industries turn a profit.

They'll ship a dumb envelope anywhere in the US for 47cents. Try getting that with FedEx. It's probably $10 for that service.

They will also deliver anywhere including bum fuck rural America where other services don't deliver.

The USPS is fucking incredible.

read my above post about how they are skipping out on pension payments and health payments just to save off bankruptcy.

They need to up their costs , revamp or sell off.

That’s quite a monumental waste. Walmart and other cash your check for five bucks of store credit.

4$ per check up to 1000$, 8$ for more then a 1000$.

The post office could charge 25 cents, and make up their budget gap.

Bernie and Warren's wanted to do it for just the dollar deposit, but if you can make the USPS solvent again, and provide a service at a fair price, that seems a better outcome to me.

Not really the same here; you're a labour guy, right -- USPS has defaulted 5 years in a row to prepayments on pension and health plans to retirees

Postal Service says $6.9B default likely for pensions

So either you pass legislation allowing them to charge way more for their service or you just bail them out every year until people realize you don't need them. But, then you'll have to do that for coal workers, key chain makers, elevator operators, block buster, etc.

Someone should post comparisons of workers between UPS and USPS

I'm not saying we should do nothing, but I am against privatizing something just because it offers a service at a ridiculously low price, causing it not to pay for itself.

For God's sake, remember the pride you felt when Kevin Costner delivered those letters.

The postman are our last chance in the coming post apocalyptic world.

Bernie knows nothing about economics/business/free enterprise. That crooked fuck used his influence to get his wife a bank loan when she was PRESIDENT of a college that she THEN BANKRUPTED.

Do we want to talk about the Vermont single payer healthcare died poor and living in a cardboard fucking box???

I hope Old Cuck Bernie runs as an independent in 2020. Would love to see him steal some dem votes to make the slaughter Trump is going to inflict in 2020 even bloodier.

Decent wage, but the benefits are not as good as USPS.

Yeah, you get to fuck Leah Remini and get to hang out with one of the co-inventors of the manzier. I will take those benefits.

USPS has 11 straight years of financial loss - last year alone to the tune of nearly 3 billion. The "its 2018" argument holds water here as there are better options, either they need to drastically overhaul it to patch up its severe leaks or cut it loose.

The post office is losing money because the Republican Congress pushed a law saying that the Post Office must fund pensions for 75 years out and other laws because they wanted to push privatization of the USPS. If it weren't for that, the USPS would be quite profitable.

Congress is trying to strangle the USPS so that they can kick the money to their big money donors.

I know, I know.....^

But it's still the truth.

You are the victim of propaganda.

It's all about union busting.

dude, even those democratic socialist / more socialist nations in Europe sold off their postal services. federal monopolies that come with near yearly bailouts that almost match nasa budget+ a whole shit load of benefical benefits no other companies get -- and they still are going to default on pensions -- i mean, if its worth that much to you...

Just close the post office if you go that route. No reason to privatize the existing shitty business. If we're not going to have a government postal service, then just shit can USPS and let the market form new competition for UPS, FedEx, DHL, etc.

I just think it is a wasted opportunity to dismantle it.

The property, locations, workforce.

It is the destruction of a resource, that could be better redirected.

Also, I believe this is really about union busting.

dude, i can show you a plethora of legit sources that show the reasons why the USPS is losing out -- show me one peer reviewed sources that backs your claim.

That initiative was pushed by potter, Henderson and ruyon for years -- the reason it bit them in the ass was because they didnt expect fedex, ups and the digital age to cut them out. Theres a reason Obama kept it in tact, only rescheduling the per employee pay scale to differentiate from other federal agencies.

That’s a monumental waste. They could also massage my feet for five bucks.

Now if you can make them solvent go for it, but offering this service at cost won’t do it. People with your thinking are part of why it’s closing

What do you think it would cost the post office to add this additional service?

It already has the locations, personel, and it isn't rocket science cashing checks.

Maybe 25 cents is a bit low, but I bet it could be done for a 1$, and would close the budget gap.

They def don't need to sell off. They help tons of poor and working class Americans across every corner of America from every demographic background you can name.
