Trump Seeking Seasonal Foreign Labor

Trumps mouth will cause him so much problems in the future. He has 3 opinions on every subject, so everything he does its so easy to dig up a comment where he had the opposite view in the past. This is why politicians dont give too many straight answers. they will be used against you

Unfortunately the US doesn't have any many bilateral working holiday agreements with other nations. I think they have agreements with Australia, NZ, and Canada and that's it. I have seen quite a bit of Filipinos working at resorts when I use to do seasonal work in my younger days but I don't know what visa they're on. It's a major pain in the ass to get a work visa in the US.

I see, that's surprising. Nearly 100% of our backpackers are from Europe with a few US/Canadians/Poms dotted around. If the US could tap into the euro backpacker market that would be a huge boon. You guys have so many amazing places to see and natural wonders, working their way across the country would be very attractive to a lot of people. Convenient as well with the amount of agriculture you have, there would always be work.

Do you think It's been purposely created like this (ie: to keep illegals around) or illegals just turned up and filled those roles decades ago so there was no niche for backpackers to fill ergo no requirement to look at easier visas

Who's got a direct line to trump? Let's get tourist work visas for the EU happening

only if your first name isn't mohammed though (no swedistans)

Yea, I actually did the visa and worked up in Tully and down in Tasmania on several farms. There's definitely a demand for an American working holiday visa for European countries but the wages would be utter shit if they're thinking they would get the same wage as you would in Australia. Why pay a good wage when you can get cheap illegal labor instead?

Sup Donald. Hire me.

Government where i live destroyed job opportunities with socialism and i need money

Nice man! Although you picked the redneck (and coldest!) part of Australia haha! Get a chance to check out the West?

We get stories on the news pretty regularly about farms being raided. It always seems to be asian run organisations that get in asian illegals, while in my experience white farmers prefer to hire backpackers or aussies. Generalization of course. Just gotta make it difficult enough it's less hassle to hire backpackers I guess.

Our border force tv show is always 50% people getting turned back out of the country because they can't give valid reasons to be here/are here to work without the right visas.

The other 50% is chinese people bringing back in banned fruits/vegetables/meats 'but I don't speak english' facepalming bad

At my work we have 1 hour break and in the cafeteria every day when we come out this show starts and we watch it while eating. Why the hell does every Chinese/Vietnamis person bring some weird food in.....its really funny as you everyone of them plays dumb when questioned and asked why they filled in the form they didnt bring any food

LOL... I can name a handful of farms out here in rural Oregon who sure as hell don't employ legal labor.

That's because no one is checking up on it. In this area of the East cost they check farms somewhat. And this is what Trump needs to do start back making regular checks to make sure everyone's paper is right and they are here legally. This was done at one time when I was working on farms as a teen. They should also make checks on workers here legally to make sure they are treated fairly. The people hiring illegal workers should be held accountable also. The finest should be so large no one wants to take that's chance.

Dear lord.

There are plenty of good reasons to bash Trump.....but this is really not one of them.

One of his businesses wants to bring in 6 (legal) foreigners to do a job that only lasts 4 months? Well hell, we might as well shut down the whole economy and surrender to Russia.

hiya Phelly2,

i don't think you understand the issue, Phelly2.

US employment stands at 4.9% (full employment in the US is considered to be 5%), so its actually difficult to find folks to fill jobs unless you're willing to pay Americans.

now, i'm assuming helping folks who work in service industry jobs make more money is part of Making America Great Again™...but Mr. Trump isn't doing that. instead of Making America Great Again™, Mr. Trump is instead Applying for H2B Visas Again™ - hiring foreign workers instead of Americans.

you know how many foreign workers Mr. Trump has hired via H2B visas?

the grand total isn't six.

it's 1,350, lol.

that's right. Mr. Trump has applied for 1,350 H2B visas.

you can look at is this way; for every job Trump "saved" at Carrier, he gave two away at his own businesses, so he could line his own pockets.

True, but you are missing the point. His job was and is to make America FEEL Great Again.

As long as people FEEL like they have power then they don't care if a Conman is taking all their money, lying to them, etc. They want to be lied to, as long as they get to FEEL like they are WINNING.

How does Putin keep his support so high wile having a crap economy? Make Russians FEEL like they are strong bears on the world stage.

There are FEELINGS and there are FACTS.

Most Americans make decisions based on their FEELINGS. Your numbers aren't going to make people FEEL any differently.

I have no problem with legal immigration especially if they can't find workers with the skill or desire to do the jobs with American citizen.

We have been using legal immigrants in farm labor for a very long time and I don't think anyone has a problem with that.

The problem has been illegal immigration.

Yes, I've never heard anyone express outrage over the old line that immigrants on work visas are "just taking the jobs Americans don't want".

And virtually all of the people I never heard express that outrage were republicans.

Dude, Trump wasn't even aware of any of this!

Because he's not some obsessive micro-manager!

You obviously don't know much about running a successful business empire.

ahhh, ok. i didn't know Mr. Trump's policy positions were mostly about feelings.

How does Putin keep his support so high wile having a crap economy? Make Russians FEEL like they are strong bears on the world stage.

it probably helps that Mr. Putin heads an authoritarian country and has utter and total control of the state media. oh, plus he can have dissenters thrown in prison.

that kind of power helps keep public opinion very high indeed.

hi ultramanhyata, oh un-pronouncable name!

Is he aware he went bankrupt? Not once, not twice, not three times, not four times ............

What happened to 3 strikes you're out? He keeps burdening the taxpayers with his failures. Is that success?

Why is any American paying taxes when he doesn't? Can't he get the Chinese to pay your taxes for you?

If and when it's brought to his attention I'm sure he'll be outraged and have the head of whomever was responsible for the decision.

ahhh, ok. i didn't know Mr. Trump's policy positions were mostly about feelings.

His "Policy Positions" are about maintaining and increasing his power and benefiting his family. Nothing is as important as that. The rest is just showmanship, getting on the front page, and feeding his vanity.

To understand him you can't just accept hypocrisy, you must EMBRACE hypocrisy. So many people get upset over hypocrisy, and he just loves that.

Donald Trump isn't even a Christian, but he needed to win Evangelicals...so.... you do what you gotta do.

Is he aware he went bankrupt? Not once, not twice, not three times, not four times ............

I think he was only made aware of them during the campaign.

I'm sure his multiple bankruptcies came as a great shock to him. And he probably quickly and surgically terminated all those who were responsible for the boners that led to the business failures.

hmmm.

it's interesting. if you replaced your inference to Mr. Trump for Mrs. Clinton, you'd probably be citing the pov Trump supporters have of Mrs. Clinton. word for word.

i'm not quite that cynical, my friend.

i think our Presidents (and senators and house members and governors, etc) all want to do good, you know? i don't see Mr. Trump as some venal, evil villain...its just his perspective of "doing good" differs from mine.

my take on the OP is that Mr. Trump's electorate doesn't give a shit what he does, lol. Trump is just acting on it.

hi Dramovitch,

Trump supporters have a POV. But what is that based on? Feelings? Fake news? Frog cartoons made by some Harvard dude?

Trump opposition have a POV. But what is that based on? A 70 year history of an individual, his family, and the choices he has made? Facts? Things that have actually happened? Things he has actually said?

Not everyone that opposes Trump supports some other specific individual. They oppose what Trump stands for, and they see it as being contrary to American values, the American Constitution.

At some point Trump must stand on his own and be judged without resorting to the "Oh yeah, but what about Clinton?" nonsense.

Trump lost the democratic vote of the people. Most people in America either didn't vote or of those that did, the majority didn't vote for him. That is reality.
