Trump says Korea was part of China while meeting Chinese premier. Koreans are pissed?

They don't actually have to claim anything, the Yuan dynasty is widely considered by historians to be both Mongols and Chinese, especially after Kublai himself start becoming more Chinese, declared his territories a Chinese dynasty, and took up the official tittle of "Emperor of China" in additional to his "Great Khan" status. That pretty much makes the Yuan dynasty a Chinese dynasty with a Mongol emperor, with all the historic Mongol lands in its territories.

You can correctly say Mongolia continued to be a part of China up until the Qing dynasty, when only the outer half managed to break free from Beijing, and no one in their right mind would be pissed at the stating of such dry-cut historical fact. (Beijing still have the inner half of Mongolia in their posession, to the tune of 1,200,000 km2 of land.)
Which respected historians considers yuan dynasty to be control of chinese?

Which respected historians considers yuan dynasty to be control of chinese?

The correct academic question here would be "Which respected historians consider the Yuan dynasty to be a Chinese dynasty established by Kublai Khan?"

The answer is: All of them.

Korea was always its own kingdom. It was never annexed by China. Although it was pretty much a puppet state of China most of the time throughout its history.

China colonized parts of modern day Vietnam and Korea on and off throughout its history, but that doesn't mean Korea belongs to them. If that's the case, Mongols can claim ownership over large parts of Europe and entire Asia since they ruled it at one point.

Yes of course, it also does not mean that several Chinese dynasties did not exert control over Korea (not just the Mongol Yuan dynasty of course), and that almost all Chinese dynasties did not have a close relationship with Korea, or that Korea is built on Chinese culture.

Trump is just being clumsy as usual. Nothing more, nothing less.

I think you dont know what a puppet state is

Are the Chinese now claiming mongol history too?

This is a minor point, but: Yes they absolutely are.

It is critical to having the ethnic groups in Inner Mongolia feel they are a part of the united Mainland China.

I was wondering how you were going to reconcile your Trump support with your normally pro-korea stance.

There's no evidence that Trump made this statement as a calculated move to ingratiate himself with China. The interview it came from makes it clear he's pretty much just parroting what Xi told him about the area. There's a lot more like this; this is just the one that blew up. If you go through the interview, it is plain that he is basing his view of international relations and history in Asia on what Xi just told him. At times he even directly used him as a source.

Trump should know better that Xi is a bullshitter.

It seems this is another one of those BS Chinese Historical claims by the Chinese.

Yeah, likely.

Or maybe Trump became an absolute genius on Sino-American relations after watching a few youtube videos on foreign relations and has outfoxed his critics again!

But that's like saying India ran Burma since the Brits controlled both and India was the British main base of operations in that region.

I agree though that no way in hell Trump knew/knows the history of Mongol conquests and control in the Far East.

Would it have been more accurate to say that Korea was once part of the Mongol empire instead of China?

I'm not even really amused by Trump not knowing shit anymore.

It's tedious and boring.

Sad.

It doesn't take that much to piss off Koreans. Koreans are an angry bunch. You got a small peninsula wedged in between two giant neighbors, who constantly bullied them for centuries. It's a country with a Napoleon complex and a fierce sense of nationalism.

koreans feeling slighted that they are part of chinese culture. <{Ray2}><{Ray3}>

I don't agree since the chinese are vastly more superior and have a richer history than the third place koreans

I think you dont know what a puppet state is

No they were. For most of Korean history after it united it was a puppet state of someone: Chinese, Manchus,Mongols, Japanese, Russians, etc.

Even Koreans admit this, and its part of why many are so nationalistic and angry about their past. There were even some Korean posters on here starting threads posting revisionist propaganda in them to make it seem like Korea wasnt a puppet state throughout history.

Well, if Korea is in 3rd place, then China is indubitably in 2nd.

Cause, TAIWAN IS NUMBA 1!

Would be to say more like Brazil ran Macau, and for a period of history, yes they did. Since the Portuguese crown was once seated in Brazil.

A puppet state is not autonomous.

You seem to be confused about the labels of vassel or tributary

In order to have bilateral relationship with the dynasties of China in those times you had to accept tributary status or no relationship or trade at all. Its kind of like the relationship SK has with US today. Just like when the British wanted bilateral relations with China but China said no so the British used opium. That was the way things went back then. If you wanted to trade with China you had to be a tributary or find some other back handed way to get in on trade and have bilateral relationships with them.

Many people probably dont understand this about Sino-far east history and just assume China controlled their tributaries rather than it being a form of bilateral relationships with allies.

Fuck, Trump, you can't even keep your trolls in a row.
