This is good because sherdoggers will have to pay more for the same shit.
Fucking hell get those votes...................
These guys owe America after the tax cuts crap legislation they passed.
They were already projecting a ridiculous amount of growth to pay for the deficit, Trump creating a possible recession would certainly shoot the deficit throught the roof.
So this vote won't necessarily be along party lines but rather what state you represent and industry within that state? This tariff only helps one industry so I don't see how many senators couldn't vote against this tariff, minus the two from Penn and whatever other states produce steel.
open borders, no tarifs, just send all the jobs away so Americans can buy cheaper TVs and keep printing dollars,
America has 4% unemployment and Daddy Trump confirmed these are real numbers not like Obama's fake numbers.
They'll have to consider companies that use steel as well, which these tariffs can hurt. Think auto industry, beer companies, canned foods, etc..
There are many more companies that use steel than who produce it.
That was my point in saying it won't be down party lines. My post was really a question. I know the WR is a strange place for honest discussion but my post was a hypothesis/question to those that know policy better than me.
I'll be honest. I don't understand why he is going the tariff route.
He could spin it, and call it something else, while achieving the same goal. Seems to be grandstanding here.
My guess is that like his NAFTA talk, we will get a whole lot of noise, and not much action.
It will say tariffs against steel and aluminum, and in reality it will be tariffs against china, russia, and iran.
All good man, my post wasn't correcting yours or anything. Your post just made me think it was worth pointing out.
I suspect that the GOP will continue to strongly oppose this. For the first time since Trump took office Paul Ryan apparently located his nuttsack and publicly opposed the tariffs.
Not gonna go through the thread but isn't it said that it isn't going to effect Canada and Mexico?
Then I can't see these tariffs going through. DEM support? No way.
And I didn't think you were trying to correct me, just wanted to jabber about this.
Oddly (to me anyway) you'll see some Democratic support for this. But I'm more moderate than your average Bernie bro. I believe Trump can do this without Senate/House support by using an old rule that was really intended to supply steel for war time. I don't now if Flake's proposal to stop him is valid or not.
And the thing that really gets me is there is no clear end game and the policy just makes no rational sense. It won't add a lot of jobs, it will hurt companies that purchase steel and aluminum, it will result in higher prices for cars, beer, etc. and for what? A couple thousand steel jobs? And we'll piss off allies to accomplish this? It really doesn't make sense. It must only be political and symbolic unless I'm missing something.
And for the record tariffs can sometimes make sense. Obama and GWB used them, but they were temporary and with specific focus and had clear goals.
For now. Trump said they'll have to agree to a NAFTA deal that he likes.
So happy with Trumps moves today. Well done Wilbur Ross & co.
Trump is making sure it stays down
Jeff Flake can fuck right off. He's purely grandstanding for a Presidential run in 2020. Piece of shit clown still supported the tax cuts.
The reciprocal tax is a great idea. Obviously, this sets the stage for bargaining.
Yeah, his policy is right wing lunacy. But he seems like a decent guy and a presidential run in 2020 would certainly help unseat agent orange, who governs like an extreme right winger but has the mentality of a high school bully and the intelligence of a fish.
I absolutely would not want Flake to win over any decent Democrat. But I would take him over Trump without hesitation.
Please Democrats run someone good in 2020.
Its going to probably have to be Kamala Harris or Elizabeth Warren. After the shit the left has pulled in the last few years, there's no way they can run a White Male candidate.
