So I have one training partner whose half guard is getting pretty good. He's a heavy, strong guy. 6'2", 245, really strong, thick legs. He's good at holding half guard and can occasionally sweep me from there. He also gets lockdown a lot but I can deal with that ok.
So today he did the normal thing, was going for deep half, but I was able to stop that. I transition to the back, get a seatbelt grip, but that leg is still stuck and I can't do shit to get it out. Get a kimura grip from his back, leg is stuck, can't do shit. Dude even almost manages to toe hold me while I have his back, but I threatened with a choke so he ditched that.
Normally I would just step over and attack with toe holds and knee bars, but he's a white belt and my coach gets pissed when I do leg attacks on lower belts.
What's your go to in this situation?
