TrinitronMaximum's Training Log

I'm going to take it easy on the Oly lifts over winter break and focus on gaining some strength on squats and overhead stability.

I'll be curious as to how this works out. I have also basically hit my limit in how much I can FS out of a clean, lockout overhead and OHS.

Whats your routine going to look like? I posted mine in the pub the other day. Overhead strength is really my weakness, with squatting being the second most weak part of my game. It's a bit frustrating being able to pull a weight plenty high enough, but being too weak or unstable to catch it. Though I'm sure the opposite would be frustrating too.

Looked good man. That little pop is where I have a problem. (the "Second Pull" I believe) I have no fuckin clue how to even attempt it. I really need to find a good Oly coach one of these days

I think it's one of those things you just need to do over and over again and keep not really getting it. And then one day you'll see some guy starting out where you were and realize you actually kinda get it. Oly coach with definitely speed along the process, but I don't think it's something anyone can just pick up right away. With no coach I'd suggest drill it, tape it, watch it, and do x. :D

Yup, I'm in the same boat. I feel confident I could pull up 95 on the snatch, but when the weight get pasts 75 I starting wobbling and dropping lifts all over the place. Similar with jerks, except that I just don't have the confidence to throw myself under the bar. I'm going to post my routine in the main forum to get some advice from others.

Word, I'll keep an eye out for it.

Back Squats
20x215 -- Feeling harder, but still pretty easy. I'll probably bump it up to 225 on Friday.

Push Press
3x145
3x155
3x165
3x170

Clean Pulls
8x70kg
6x80kg
2x85kg
2x8x95lbs

So I'm not really sure if I can do clean pulls without a coach. Someone recommended that I do them at ~90% of my clean 1RM. The weights were light and felt easy, but I was very unbalanced at the top of the lift, and stumbled backwards a few times. I dropped the weight down and tried doing them lighter, but it still felt awkward, and then I just ended up using too much arms.

My friend had his heart set on 20 rep squats, so I decided while I'm back I'm going to do them 2x a week with overhead squats instead on Wednesdays.

3x185

Box Jumps
6xtall
6xtall
4xtall+45plate

I was surprised how high I was able to jump! The box was about at my shoulders and I was able to land on top. I'm pretty sure I'd be able to dunk now, I just need to get the coordination down.

Back Squats
20x230 -- these felt easier than the 225 last friday

Push Press
3x155
3x165
2x170 + 2xfail

Couldn't quite get the 170s today, even though I got them last week. Maybe the squats took more out of me than I thought.

Clean-grip Deadlift
5x135
5x185
5x235
5x255
5x275

I did these just like the beginning part of a clean. Felt pretty strong, I'll probably continue doing these.

Didn't do very well keeping up on my log during the beginning of the semester.

I'm going to compete in a meet that's being hosted by a gym I've gone to a couple times here. Since I didn't do any oly lifting over break, I'm still getting my form back, and I'm just going to treat this as a work-through meet.

Snatches actually have been feeling pretty good. Cleans are feeling especially awkward though, and I'm not sure why.

I'm trying to decide what sort of routine I'll be following this semester. I'm going to continue doing olympic lifting, but I think I need more strength work then I was giving myself last semester. I'd like to keep it simple, maybe something like:

monday
snatch
back squat
pushing assistance

wednesday
clean and jerk
front squat
pulling assistance

friday
snatch
back squat
core assistance

I started playing a lot of hockey over break, and I'd like to continue playing throughout the schoolyear, so I will have to balance lifting with hockey as well...

Good day! A friend from track decided he wanted to start learning Olympic lifting, and I think he'll be sticking to it. I had him start with the snatch, and do about 50 reps with the bar, then some heavy front squats. Seemed like a good first day.

Snatch
3posx2
40x4
60x2
FAILx70
65x2
70x2
75x2
77.5x2
80x1
82.5x1

Snatches felt good today, I focused on diving under the bar. Just need to combine that with some stability in the bottom...

Clean and Jerk
60x4
80x2
90x2
95x1
97.5x1 (bad jerk)
97.5x1
97.5x1
97.5x1

Some semi-heavy work to remind my muscles how it feels to pull hard.

MEET DAY -- St. Louis Invitational hosted by Lift For Life Gym

Snatch
Lift 1: FAILx82 -- was just a tiny bit too far forward. I caught it at the bottom, and dropped it when I tried to rise.

Lift 2: 82 -- a bit unstable, but better than the first

Lift 3: 84 (+4kg meet PR) -- this felt great, if I had a fourth attempt I'm sure I could have got 86. I went into the lift knowing I had already hit one, and decided to dive under as fast as possible and just hope I could catch it. Worked well :D

Clean and Jerk
Lift 1: 107 -- did not catch the jerk with arms locked out, but i was able to get the lift as i did not press out afterwards :D

Lift 2: 110 -- again, i perfected the art of the bent arm jerk, and got 3 white lights

Lift 3: 113 (+3kg alltime/meet PR) -- this jerk I actually caught with nice straight arms. Felt heavy, but good

So overall I think this meet went wonderfully! The best part about it was that I was competing for most total weight lifted with a NINTH GRADER. This kid was half my height, weighed a mere 130lbs, and tied me (he hit an 85kg snatch and 112kg clean and jerk). His form and raw strength were amazing. Fucking incredible!

You hit a BW snatch yet? The gap between mine keeps getting bigger cause I'm gaining weight.
