Tip culture in hipster cities is overblown.

I’m a dick, I’m also an asshole. At least I give away my money at my discretion not because some people on the internet said I should give it to every server.
It’s not people on the internet, it’s basic human knowledge.

I’ve only not tipped when my drinks sat empty from beginning of the meal till we were done.

You’re even supposed to tip your barber who makes well over minimum wage.

Places around here have even started slapping a gratuity percentage on to the bill, especially at 24 hour restaurants. To me that’s a bit presumptuous because if the waitress sucks I don’t want her to be guaranteed a larger chunk of money than I’d like to give.

I’m a sucker though. Ive even tipped the stylist when she fucked my hair up and I had to wear a hat for a week so it could grow and even out.

The joke is that the poster works in a tipped industry himself.

It goes without saying that his biases color his laughable proclamations RE: tipping. There's a reason why we can't take anything people like this say seriously.

Not everyone that works in a Casino works for tips, dick. What do you do since you seem so high and mighty? Probably independently wealthy right?
So my job means you can't take my opinion seriously?

This thread has really opened my eyes that people truly believe they are better than others just because of their income. Sad this many people attach self worth to a monetary number.

This thread is insane. A bunch of people complaining about how to tip and here you are complaining when they put the gratuity on the bill. Thats the cost of service. If you dont want to pay dont eat out. Places are putting gratuity on bills because cheap asses are not tipping anymore. That Gratuity reflects the real cost of you eating out.

I think a lot of the people so adamantly against a livable minimum wage have only just gotten above minimum wage themselves. So if the minimum wage is raised who will they have to look down on to feel better about their own shitty existense?

Pretty intradasting stuff here:

The cost of eating out should be reflected in the price of the meal. Not the price of the meal + some intagible amount that lets the owner pay dogshit wages.

Whats the difference between raising the cost of your meal by that percentage or designating it as a direct wage? The employer is literally trying to NOT pay dogshit wages in your example and you are bitching about it.

Because when I tip I do it for exceptional service. Not so someone can make their minimum wage. When I pay the price of the meal, that should cover costs. It does in most other 1st world countries.

I don´t think it´s fair that the lazy shithead waiter automatically gets the xx% as the insanely good waiter who went above and beyond. Then I have to tip even more to the good waiter. And the lazy shithead can keep being a lazy shithead.

Pay a livable wage to all, and the great waiters will still get tips to supplement income. The lazy shithead won´t. Works perfectly well in other places.

You make no sense. You seem to be ok with using our current tip system but also bitching that the restaurant doesnt pay more.

Let me help you out. That meal? It costs more than you think. Its only that cheap because the restaurant offsets its wages. What you are saying is other places just make the price reflect all the costs. I agree that would be easier. But by putting the gratuity on the bill and making it mandatory you are seeing the true cost of your meal(food+service).
Yes its ass-backwards but its still the same result. You have to pay the true cost of the meal. Food+service.
If you were to say that when the gratuity is mandatory than you dont tip anything else. Id be ok with that.

I tip somewhere between $1 up to 30% depending on the service and my mood.

However some places are cool with you not tipping as much if they recognize you as a regular and you consistently give them good business. Sometimes you even get drinks on the house.

Bunch of pussies who can't even click no on an ipad when prompted to tip for counter service.
Stand yo ground bitches! You want the tip, you gotta bring me the cup while I'm sitting down. Period.

I straight up won't go to any places with a tip prompt. I know what to do, assholes.
Do me wrong, 10%. Do me right, 25%. Do nothing, zero.

@bushman505 lives in Alaska where tipped workers are paid the full state minimum wage($9.84) before tips so that argument does not apply to him and there is no reason he should feel obligated to pay a tip.

This changes everything.

I'd still tip a little since minimum wage is laughably low anywhere, but I wouldn't go down the usual 15-20% route. 10% tops.

$9.84 sounds pretty decent for a MW but I don't know what the cost of living is like in Alaska so not sure how far that goes.

Lol'ing hard @ the idea that the "true cost" of a meal is paid on a completely voluntary basis. Server logic.

I know you grubby, dirty handed servers aren't the sharpest tools in the shed but is this truly the kind of drivel you fall for? I can imagine your employer fills up your head with these delusions of grandeur in hopes of pushing you to extort more money from patrons, subsidizing your wages and in effect passing the burden of your salary to the public. What a gruesome racket.

"You're paying for the true cost of the meal! Bump that tip up 5% and pay my bills, I've earned it!"

Server logic, folks ROFL.

Absolutely.

You bring a number of inherent biases to the table ergo your opinion can't be taken seriously on any level.

There's a reason why everyone ITT is ignoring/lol'ing hard at what you say.
