TUF 20 Season Bonuses: Namajunas $50,000, Markos and Calderwood $25,000
December 13, 2014

LAS VEGAS – Rose Namajunas won $50,000, while Randa Markos and Joanne Calderwood each took home $25,000 for season bonuses on “The Ultimate Fighter 20.”

Namajunas won for the season’s best fight, a win over Calderwood, as well as one of the two best performances. Markos took the other performance bonus.

The bonus winners were announced on Saturday during the TUF 20 Finale, which took place at The Pearl at Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. The main card aired on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.

Namajunas picked up her double bonus in the semifinals in the final quarterfinal matchup when she submitted Calderwood in the second round. A kimura forced Calderwood to tap. Namajunas reached Friday night’s live final, but was submitted in the third round by Carla Esparza.

Markos won her bonus based on the season’s ninth episode, when she fought Felice Herrig in the quarterfinals. Markos, the No. 14 seed on the show, continued her upsets, tapping Herrig with a first-round armbar.

^^^^ Good news re; the bonuses
Good for Rose on performing so well in the house and making it to the final

Also really pleased to see Randa getting a bonus, there was talk in the thread about Randa about how she has to juggle training with family and full time work commitments, hopefully this extra cash will help to ease some of the financial pressures and allow her to dedicate more time to trainng.

here's hoping

JoJo Calderwood: "Would Reebok make me a kilt for UFC Scotland?"

JoJo_Calderwood_3128370b.jpg

JoJo Calderwood says she is “ready” for her UFC debut is Las Vegas this week, but posed the question which many are asking: when will the UFC come to Scotland?

It looks on the cards for summer 2015, potentially at The Hydro in Glasgow.

Typically, with a broad grin, she also pondered: “I wonder if Reebok will make me a kilt to fight in Scotland?

“I'll wear anything in the cage so long as they make me a kilt for when they go to Scotland.”

Scotland tugs at her. As do the fans. Barely a day goes by when Calderwood is not asked about an inaugural UFC Scotland event.

“I've not fought in Scotland for two years now, so it would be good to fight there again and to also give opportunities to my other team-mates to fight on the show.

“It would be a great moment for the fans in Scotland as well. A lot of fans worldwide will want to come to Scotland for the first time.”

Tecia Torres working her way up the UFC's strawweight division
Dec 16 2014

2014-08-06-TUF-20-0017.vadapt.955.high.0.jpg

Tecia Torres (5-0) is back home in Fall River, Mass. Babysitting a tiny tike of a relative Monday afternoon. The scene may be familiar, for the strawweight, but what she just got back from doing is still surreal to the 25 year-old.

Three days prior, Torres was in the Octagon in Las Vegas, winning her UFC debut. Though the fighter has one of the most impressive young records in the world at 115 pounds, it wasn't long ago that she thought it would be impossible for women like her to ever fight in the world's top MMA promotion.

"No, I never thought this would happen," she admits to FOX Sports.

"When I first started kickboxing and following MMA, I loved watching Ronda Rousey and 'Cyborg,' but [UFC president] Dana [White] always said that women would never fight in the UFC. Then, they did the 135 pound division and there were rumors of doing 115, but I didn't think it would happen. Then, all of the sudden, after my fight with Felice [Herrig, in Dec. of 2013], I got a call from Dana and he told me, 'welcome to the UFC.'"

As unreal as that moment on the phone felt, her time on season 20 of The Ultimate Fighter, fighting for a shot at a UFC title was even more so. Actually walking down to the cage in a packed arena this past Friday for her official UFC debut, with her friends and family watching, and the cameras streaming her live out to the world, was a dream come true, for Torres.

"I'm just so grateful and blessed to be doing what I love," she says.

After graduating college, Torres' plan was to become a police officer. That plan was changed for now, to a full-time MMA career, and she's loving every moment of her unlikely professional life.

"I wake up every day, make my own hours. It's wonderful."

Torres says it was also wonderful to train in her home gym every day and be coached by her American Top Team coaches in preparation for her TUF Finale bout last week against Angela Magana. "For me, it made all the difference in the world," she explains.

"Fighting on TUF and fighting in the regular UFC is about the same, except fighting live for the UFC is much better in the aspect that my team is walking out with me. I have a walkout song, the crowd is yelling, my mom is in the crowd. It's a nice feeling.

"On the show, I just felt alone. Obviously, I wasn't alone, there are people but I felt alone in my head. I'm a person who likes to be around family and my team. To have those familiar voices in your corner, to have people who know exactly how you fight, it makes all the difference in the world."

Torres also says that having her UFC debut in a relatively small venue like The Palms helped her get slowly acclimated to the full UFC experience. She'll be even more comfortable and ready the next time she makes that walk to the Octagon.

The "Tiny Tornado" is also hoping she won't have to wait too long to get back in there, again. "I would definitely love to fight in February, again," she says.

"Now, I'm just relaxing. I really wish the Boston card in mid January would have been a little further back. I'm here right now in my home town, an hour away from Boston and it would have been nice to get on that card. Heck, maybe I'd still be up for it (laughs). You never know. But I'll definitely be ready for a February fight."

As for whom Torres would like to fight, next, the humble scrapper says she knows she has to work her way to the top, though she'd be ready for a big title fight if it came along quickly. "Oh yeah, I would take a rematch with [new UFC strawweight champion Carla ] Esparza in a heartbeat," she says.

"Though, I'm not going to say I deserve a fight with Esparza next. I would love a five-round fight with her but I know I have to work my way up in the division again. I came out of the house not as a winner. I think three wins in the UFC will make me more than deserving of a title shot."

Well, Bec may not have won, but it looks like she gave Heather a powerful hit.

UFC titleholder Carla Esparza believes she should own the world

In the spirit of giving small women the opportunity they so clearly deserve, the entire jackpot will go to Educate Girls, an Indian non-profit where it will be enough to put 28 girls in school for a year, in an area where only 1 out of 100 girls reaches Class 12 and each year of education reduces their risk of a variety of outcomes like HIV and maternal mortality, improves the health and education of their children, reduces their number of children in an area pressured by overpopulation, protects them from gender-based violence, delays their marriage in a region where 68% of girls marry before the legal age, strengthens their ability to contribute to their community, and gives them the chance to dream big and reach for those dreams. Thank you all for playing - you each put a girl in school for one year by doing so. And of course a big thanks to Arkain2K for organizing.

Are you guys ready for the Flyweight Tournament??

Yeah I'm in if there's a bunch of people..

I expected about 10 players last time, and we ended up with 28! I think there's going to be even more participants now that the women's divisions went mainstream!

The good news is we'll have @Augustus Caesar and @Drake to clean up the prediction threads for us this time, especially @battery and his 3+ purges each week

Hopefully less spoilers from FS1 this time lol.

The promos from first two weeks was horrible! Hahaha.

When does this start; I have a horrendous schedule the next 2 months.

They haven't announce the TUF 26 air dates yet, but I think it will definitely be more than 2 months from now, consider that TUF 25 is still airing, so you're safe bro :D

Im definitely down again. Might be harder for me to keep up with the new born and everything but the SW fantasy league was one of the most fun things ive ever been a part of.

It's like Fantasy Football. Even if you don't know anything, you can still dominate!
