The TUF 20 Fantasy League - General Discussion & Analysis (Registered Players Only!!)

Now that the SW tournament has concluded, I'd like to propose a toast to:

The early birds battery, Cyantist, Augustus Caesar for jumping on board as soon as the TUF 20 Fantasy League registration went live on July 25th! You three were the first snowballs that started this avalanche!

My right-hand man iThrillhouse for all the beautiful League posters and weekly points double-checkings! Thank you for all your help, bro!

League's reporter Mark Zima for all the news/photos/videos updates during the tourney! You Sir, are quite possibly the most helpful WhiteBelt I have encountered on Sherdog!

Runner-up iNoScopedJFK for getting 14 out of 15 picks correctly! That's quite an amazing feat for a self-proclaimed "TUF 20 Noob"!

League's analysts JarlSkuld, Ashenthorn, Charlie77 for all the weekly insightful inputs!

League's anti-Nostradamus SeverianB for being such a good sport and continued to duke it out to the bitter end along side the rest of us, unlike some others who threw in the towel as soon as victory seemingly drifted beyond their reach. If this was the Tour de France, that special Lanterne Rouge (Red Lantern) shirt would go to your heroic effort for sure!

League Champion Ah Man for restoring our faith in humanity! You Sir, are pure class! I think I'm speaking for everyone when I say we actually don't feel bad for losing to you AT ALL!

Sherdog's Senior Moderators Ronwah and Tachy for keeping the League's headquarters clean, from disposing weekly purged picks to daily extermination of the shameless snails who kept sneaking in our meeting room.

All League members for making this tournament a smashing success, which couldn't have happened without all your participation! The Brotherhood shall convene again when the UFC have a 105 or 125 tourney a few years down the road!

Until then, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, everyone!!!

Arkain2K
League Commissioner.

right on, commish! excellent post! :)

Rose Namajunas on title loss to Carla Esparza:
'I kind of felt like a kid in there'

069_Carla_Esparza_vs_Rose_Namajunas.0.0.jpg

LAS VEGAS -- It's possible Rose Namajunas got a little bit ahead of herself leading into her historic bout with Carla Esparza on Friday night.

Namajunas fell to Esparza by third-round submission (rear-naked choke) in the UFC's inaugural women's strawweight title fight at The Ultimate Fighter 20 Finale here at the Pearl at the Palms. Namajunas was the chic pick to win the fight and become the face of the new division.

"I was very excited to go in there and win it and take it all," Namajunas said in the post-fight press conference. "I just gotta go back and really just ponder everything and try to evolve and learn from this and grow as a woman. I kind of felt like a kid in there. I just gotta take that and grow from this just like my last loss."

Esparza used her wrestling to essentially dominate the second and third rounds. Namajunas came out extremely aggressive in the first and landed big punches and knees. Esparza ate all of them, stayed composed and executed her game plan perfectly.

Namajunas, 22, is still extremely young. This was only her fifth career pro fight and her first was just last year. Maybe all the hype surrounding her -- like UFC president Dana White saying she was the next Ronda Rousey -- will one day come to fruition. It just won't be this weekend.

"This is just an investment in my future," Namajunas said. "I'm gonna tweak some things, I'm gonna work harder and I'm gonna be back."

Namajunas rolled through the competition on The Ultimate Fighter 20 relatively easily, submitting Alex Chambers, Joanne Calderwood and Randa Markos en route to the finals. As the victories, all impressive, piled up, so did the hype. Even though Esparza was the former Invicta FC 115-pound champion, Namajunas spent a long time as a favorite in this fight at the sportsbooks here in Vegas.

Did Namajunas feel any of the pressure of all those headlines about her? Maybe. She wouldn't give that a straight answer.

"It always adds pressure," Namajunas sad. "It's just a matter of when you get in there, is it gonna be too much or is it just enough? I found out tonight that I just gotta be patient and take my time with this. I got a lot of time."

TUF 20 Finale salaries: Carla Esparza earns $50,000 for UFC title win

087_Carla_Esparza_vs_Rose_Namajunas.0.0.jpg

No surprise here, but if you're fighting on The Ultimate Fighter, it's better on your wallet to make the finals. UFC strawweight champion Carla Esparza handily out-earned the rest of her fellow TUF 20 castmates at Friday's The Ultimate Fighter 20 Finale, pocketing $50,000 for her main event win according to figures released to MMAFighting.com by the Nevada Athletic Commission.

Despite being the tournament's No. 1 overall seed and reigning Invicta FC champion, Esparza entered her finals bout against 22-year-old Rose Namajunas as a betting underdog. It didn't matter though, as Esparza dominated Namajunas with her wrestling before securing a third-round submission finish to be crowned the UFC's inaugural 115-pound champion.

Namajunas earned $25,000 in defeat, which is still significantly above the $8,000/$8,000 entry salary earned by the rest of the TUF 20 cast.

Regardless of any title implications, the card's top earner ended up being featherweight Charles Oliveira. Oliveira edged out a unanimous decision over Jeremy Stephens in the night's co-main event to earn $54,000. Stephens pocketed $40,000 for the loss.

TUF 20 Finale took place Dec. 12 at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, NV. Esparza, Yancy Medeiros, Jessica Penne and Randa Markos also took home additional $50,000 fight night bonuses for their work.

As always, the entire TUF 20 Finale payroll can be seen below, although these figures do not represent a fighter's total earnings, as sponsorship money and discretionary post-fight bonuses are not publicly disclosed.

Main Card (FOX Sports 1)
Carla Esparza ($25,000 + $25,000 = $50,000) def. Rose Namajunas ($25,000)
Charles Oliveira ($27,000 + $27,000 = $54,000) def. Jeremy Stephens ($40,000)
K.J. Noons ($31,000) vs. Daron Cruickshank ($17,000) ruled a no contest
Yancy Medeiros ($15,000 + $15,000 = $30,000) def. Joe Proctor ($10,000)
Jessica Penne ($8,000 + $8,000 = $16,000) def. Randa Markos ($8,000)

Preliminary Card (FOX Sports 1)
Felice Herrig ($8,000 + $8,000 = $16,000) def. Lisa Ellis ($8,000)
Heather Clark ($8,000 + $8,000 = $16,000) def. Bec Rawlings ($8,000)
Joanne Calderwood ($8,000 + $8,000 = $16,000) def. Seo Hee Ham ($8,000)
Tecia Torres ($8,000 + $8,000 = $16,000) def. Angela Magana ($8,000)

Preliminary Card (UFC Fight Pass)
Aisling Daly ($8,000 + $8,000 = $16,000) def. Alex Chambers ($8,000)
