The Ronda Rousey that fought in Strikeforce would be champ today

Ronda looked good beating soccer moms

she ran away from cyborg and got destroyed by the 2 legit competition she faced who didnt go full retard and jumped in an armbar (cat zingano)

Ppl forget this but Zingano's previous fight before Ronda was a TKO of Nunes

She was good until she faced good strikers her boxing was never even average.

FWIW, Nunes got finished/beat by several fighters who Ronda finished like Cat Zingano, Alexis Davis, Sarah D'Alelio. Which suggests that Ronda would have beat her at some point before she got better and Ronda got worse. Nunes literally got finished by Cat right before Cat got destroyed in 14 seconds by Ronda.

At some point, yes. Back before she started training at ATT, Nunes had no footwork, didn't know what a jab was, and swung sloppy hooks in the stereotypical WMMA style. Ronda beats that version of Nunes without too much trouble. However, Nunes has improved immensely since joining her new camp, she now has good footwork, distance control, setups, and puts beautiful straight punches right down the middle with lots of speed & power. From the first Shevchenko fight onward, Nunes kills any version of Ronda.

No. She was a great grappler and dominated a division of grapplers. She was a shit striker with no footwork or striking defense and, of course, no head movement (thank you Edmond). When she fought actual strikers, she got the shit beat out of her. Nothing would change.

Yup. Good footwork and straight punches down the middle are things that Ronda can't deal with. Ronda runs straight into the clinch and as you noted, has no head movement. Any fighter who knows how to circle out to avoid the clinch and put a decent straight punch down the middle will blap her in the head all night long. Problem is up until Holly, every one of her opponents swung wide hooks and sloppy overhands at her, the words lateral movement weren't in their vocabularies.

In some ways, Ronda was like a female Royce. A one-trick pony - a very good one-trick pony- who was dominate in a shallow pool where she could keep the fight in her area of expertise. Once fighters evolved she was stuck with her one trick. Matt Hughes was like this with his wrestling. He owned his division until GSP came along with his mix of skills. It's normal for a newer sport and nothing to be ashamed of. She was the shit for a while, but any version of her is lucky to make top 5 today.

As Ronda got bulkier she started fighting more like a mindless bully, trying to simply run over people. This worked for a while since she is relatively strong, and even though has garbage technique she hits heavy. She would simply bulldoze her way and run through her opponents, who were often flustered by the barrage. But with all the size she lost a fair bit of agility.

What happened was that Holly is a large, strong, and very coordinated striker, with reach, brisk footwork, and far superior athletically than her previous opponents. Her precision and speed just made Ronda look like a slumbering mess. And Amanda is probably the most violent and strong fighter in the division, with very good muay thai. Once she started fighting strikers who were large enough to resist her bullying, she was exposed for her one dimensionality. Earlier in her career she was less strong a puncher, but also more agile and less brutish.

You honestly think ronda at the start of her MMA career would be better then in her prime at the ufc??? Come on man..

She lost because she got cocky and thought she could stand with strikers agaisnt holm when her best skills were grappling and judo and she was mentally broken when she fought nunes..thats all nothing to do with her shape..she looked in phemonal shape for the nunes fight..got starched in 30 seconds..she should of never been allowed to fight that night her coaches failed her..thats why she lost stop trying to make excuse for a narcissistic women who couldnt handle the one fundamental thing about sports ..how to take a loss
The competition got tougher. Nunes is a competent Judoka herself and wasn't about to volunteer to grapple. Ronda was forced to strike with her. She was a horrible sport. Not sad to see her go

Think about it

The Rousey we saw late in her UFC run was a shell of the Ronda we saw in her early run in Strikeforce
The contrasts are many, but the major ones are
Shape

29OdQB4

and Aura
RONDA-CAGE-640.jpg

in the UFC she was out of shape, and she quickly lost her Aura when Uriah Faber almost RNC'd her in the first round. People forgot about it, but it made her human
And from there the cracks began to show
Without either of these things she was a sitting duck for fighters like Nunes and Holms

but lets think about this
Holm is an overrated point fighter whose crowning achievement is upsetting Unmotivated Ronda, and since then has been a disappointment

and Nunes, who would be her toughest test for sure, is a fighter with poor cardio
And in shape Ronda ready to go for 25 minutes I believe

discuss

and please be respectful

Pre USADA Ronda. USADA Ronda suddenly got dumpy looking, mentally insecure in that cage and leading up to it, and looked totally different and had no confidence.
Post USADA WWE Ronda suddenly is back in top shape..

Honda probably would have smoked...Cyborg
I don't think so. Ronda had an open invitation to fight Cyborg at 140 and all she did was make excuses why she couldn't take that fight.

Ronda could be a champ now if she just got a real striking coach. She is the Khabib of her division except unlike Khabib she didnt train to strike at all cause she depended entirely on grappling. I mean Khabib isnt the best striker, but he can at least hang. Ronda needs a coach to teach her how to do that.

I like that comparison... Ronda as the WMMA Royce... there are parallels

Same Rhonda the talent is just better who she has to face now. And her coach didnt really help her progress.

Ronda was, and always has been, overrated. Anyone with a striking game that can deal with a bull rush will beat her one dimensional game.

i have no idea who this isis she a real fighter?

No, it's her current WWE opponent. One thing about WWE though is showing how Ronda was never actually that attractive. She just was compared to the almost exclusively ugly ass women that were in her division at the time. Another thing Ronda was overhyped for lol. Seriously, compare Ronda to this girl and it's not even close.

I agree. I've been saying for years......Ronda's demise was that she fell in love with her boxing.

If the octagon had a table, Holly would have been eliminated.

And this would have happened to any ref in the ring.

No. She lost because she got figured out by a competent striker with some lateral movement and then she lost all her confidence after that.

In every fight prior Ronda relies on toughness to walk straight forward and grab her opponent and gain clinch and the TD and she almost ALWAYS eats punches to gain clinch. Ronda relied on her toughness and confidence to get her there but the other kye component was how incredibly bad and unprepared her opponents were to move laterally and counter her. They simply did not have the skills.

Holly was the first opponent with good lateral movement and counter punching skills. Arguably those are her best skills and she thrives when someone chases her so she can side step and counter.

Its not like Ronda did not want clinch and to get this to the ground. She just could not get it.

And then with accumulation and Ronda's fragile confidence waining for the first time we know what happened next.

Summed up perfectly

If Ronda was judo and non-Edmond striking, she’d still be champ.
