high level boxing + college level wrestling. Stipe, Cody, Aaron Pico even Woodley and TJ who are more boxing focused, are the real "new breed" mix in a basic level of BJJ and you are set. Guys like Rory, who were once labeled as "new breed" and trained a little of everything from a young age but were never really elite at anything. While Rory had success he never had that one aspect to turn to to dominate a fight when needed. Guys like stipe, cody and soon Pico have the ability to keep the fight where they want and use elite striking to finish people.

You mean fighters who are well rounded..... Duh

The new breed is guys who are built like basketball players who can come in big without having a huge cut.

Surprised you didn't have Cody Garbrandt on your list.

With the exception of Pico, who I haven't seen enough be sold on his power, but that is something they all have over someone like Rory. Power. The 4oz gloves and decent power are a huge tool in MMA. There have been some fighters that make the map in MMA without much else at their disposal.

It seems like, as a whole, we're putting a lot of pressure on Pico. He's obviously a very exciting young prospect, I just want to let him develop.

well rounded doesn't cut it always, being elite at 2 things is better than good at everything with those 2 things being boxing and wrestling for best results

Dan Henderson? The OG New Breed.

Chuck Liddell. New breed sensation. Lol

you mean Don Frye, Keith Jardine and Court McGee?

The "new breed" fighters aren't just a particular style of fighters but simply the new generation of kids coming up vastly more knowledgeable about the sport and better trained.

Speaking of Aaron Pico

Joe Schilling comment says it all: "Bruh......That's retarded!!! A wrestler at your level with those hands get the fuck out of here!!!!!"

For sure striking skills in mma recently have got so much better, we are seeing guys with some serious speed and craft with their hands in the last 3-4 years that was unprecedented, this is a very young sport and the bar is being raised every day.

This is a very interesting video, at the beginning Bisping explain how we are seeing a lot more striking in mma recently, and it isn't a matter of phases like some fans think, simply the strikers are a lot better at defending takedowns and get up.
