That is actually probably the best answer. Funny how the dude had such a rabid fanbase on here too. Had to be the most boring fighter in Pride.

One fight makes you forget the four first-round (T)KOs that preceded it. What a goldfish memory you have. And the Ngannou fight still had one of the most crazy, hold-your-breath first rounds ever; well worth suffering the rest of the fight for the sake of that beginning, I think.

The particular combination of Ngannou's amazing strengths and critical weaknesses meant that the wrestlefuck was the only sure path to victory. It's not the way Stipe prefers to take, he'd rather make quick work and an early night of it... but it's part of immigrant mentality to do what you need to do to get the job done, however unglamorous.

Because he lays n prays. He made a fight with Nick fucking Diaz a snoozer and did virtually no lasting damage to him.

He hits enough to be "active" like short elbows and pitter patter strikes, but none of them are really damaging. Maybe by round 5 he'll have accumulated enough strikes to open up a cut and make it bloody. Compared to Khabib, DC, Jones, Yoel, Frankie, or Cain, who fucking maul the guy beneath them, he's quite the bore.

He played it safe in his championship run and had a reputation for it until his departure from the sport.
 
Finally people have stopped saying Machida. Thank God. I can die peacefully now.
