(1) If somebody is squeezing your carotids closed, tensing your body by contracting your muscles will only lead to less blood going to the brain, and the heart pumping more blood to contracting muscles.

This is why some people faint during hard workouts. The blood is going to the muscles, and not enough is going to the brain. This is just basic physiology.

(2) Every human being who is old enough to reach his/her neck with his hands, has the instinct to fight the choke. You don't need a black belt in BJJ to reach out and try to remove the thing choking you. It is not even in your control, your body will instinctively try to remove whatever is choking you.

If you are not trying to remove the choke, it is because you can't, and your body is not even responding instinctively.

For example, If somebody tied a strong noose around your neck and tried to hang you, tensing your neck and shoulder muscle will not help. If your hands are free, you will instinctively grab the rope around your neck and try to relieve the pressure. This is an instinct, even with people trying to commit suicide.

Conclusion, you will never get out of a well applied choke using the Michael Chiesa method. It won't work. By flexing your shoulders and neck, you will only be sending more blood to that area, instead of using the little bit of strength you have with your hands to remove the whatever is causing the choke.

There no other way to defend the RNC other than freeing your neck.

Chiesa should have talked less after that loss. Most of what he said was utter bullshit and everyone knows it.

He had Lee right where he wanted him.

The goal was to keep turning if I remember correctly. It was 85% done, but shit like jon Fitch vs erick Silva and kish vs herring happens sometimes

"If you don't defend from a sub, you will get subbed." - Mikey Palangio

GOAT MMA analyst imho

He was just kidding. You can hear him say that in the bloopers version of the interview.

His statement was completely retarded. It makes sense if the choke is right about to slip under the chin. But in that case, the choke was already sunk. Trying to turtle up is a waste of time.

Chiesa lost he needs to deal with it, like he needs to deal with people talking about his mom without him flying off the handle. And you saw how he flew off the handle at Yamasaki after the fight. And yet here Chiesa was in the pre-fights saying he was such a changed man and nothing will emotionally rattle him. And yet look at him after this fight - rattled. Not much has changed has it Mike?

he was playing possum
It worked to a small extent. Chiesa was able to pop up instantly and protest raising plausible deniability.

Ali used to do rope a dope but there is a fine line between that and just dope.

Lee did not fall for it instead Ref did and will carry a loss. Chiesa had 26 seconds to maybe ride out that choke but we will never know, looked like he would not last another 5 -10 seconds. Though Ref did not allow the extra few seconds for clarity. Perhaps Ref wants to send a message don't play possum!

Doesn't matter

Didn't tap
Wasn't out
Towel wasn't thrown in

^One of these things has to happen to lose by RNC^

Kish was defending. Can't speak on the fitch/Silva fight but the key point is Chiesa stopped defending so any comparison to another fight is invalid if they were still defending.

That's literally incorrect because none of those things happened and he still lost by RNC. You must intelligently defend yourself or the ref has a right to call it off.

Yep, you fight the hands. Irl you can attack the fingers, using your strong fingers on their weaker ones.

No, that's why the call was "literally incorrect"

"Intelligently defend yourself" rule is for when someone is being pummeled, it's not used to anticipate a tap or a fighter passing out from a choke, the submission has to play out, if it were officiated the way you are saying then every submission would be called the moment it's locked in.
